When did the money go out of Scottish football?

Reading an article on Celtics financial nous and how its helped them get this far in the champions league. It states that television revenue is less than 1% of the premier league When exactly did that disparity begin and who or what caused it? Is Sky to be held to blame or just the quality of the product? I remember when both Glasgow clubs could compete for a high level of players, especially Rangers.

Testament to how to run a club imo, I guess the attendeces of 40,000 against any micky mouse team that turns up a celtic park does help a bit.

Why would Sky to be blame? They're not going to pay over the odds for a product that simply no one watches. The quality of football outside Celtic, Rangers, and clubs like Fergie's Aberdeen has never been great - it's hard to try and sell that to a wider audience.

Bout the same time the money went into the Premier League. The EPL sucks up all the best players. Even leagues like Ireland's are much worse off than they were 10 years ago.

No point comparing Scottish and English leagues in terms of tv money and hence, quality.

SPL teams can't even compete with Championship or League 1 teams for wages. Countless young players have went down to England because of the money when they would have been far better suited to staying in Scotland.

Rangers couldn't afford to, hence why they went out of business.

lots of Celtic supporters in the US. Its all marketing. If they broadcast all Celtic matches..you will have people wanting to see their matches. That will in turn help money getting to other clubs too I am sure.

Fundamentally it's due to the explosion of TV revenues in the game that has concentrated wealth into two or three leagues. And any historically huge club outside of that privileged echelon is doomed save a more-money-than-sense benefactor.

Sky are only to blame insofar as their financial doping of the English Premier League has inflated wages to the point whereby few if any other clubs can compete with their product.

Nobody wants to watch mickey mouse football.

People often complain about the level of competition in the PL or La Liga, but it is 10 times worse in Scotland. It's unsustainable.

I fucking hate the term "mickey mouse" because you're all using it wrong.

If you described something as "mickey mouse" in the normal world, you would be describing it as plastic and fake, and probably with loads of artificial funds. Like Disney theme parks, like Mickey Mouse.

So why are you using it differently here? Scottish Football is devoid of sugar daddies and plastic fans. Ergo it's not mickey bloody mouse. Call it boring, but it's not Mickey Mouse. Use it right.
