Wimblydon
A Possible Cat Fight Between Manchester City and Liverpool - Sport Witness
Quote:
The Anfield Cat has this week become something of a cult figure throughout the football world with newspapers and news agencies all over Europe carrying the story of his/her evening outing on the pitch.
Well, it's sparked a bit of jealousy as the Manchester City website explains...
City's Club cat, Wimblydon has reacted angrily to the publicity given to the stray moggy who appeared on the pitch against Tottenham in midweek.
The Liverpool moggy has attracted 30,000 followers on Twitter (@AnfieldCat) in less than a week, but now Wimblydon wants City fans to show who really is the cat's whiskers.
Wimblydon has been City's official Top Cat since 2001 and lived wild at the Blues' training centre, used to drop the odd dead mouse at Kevin Keegan's office as a gift, but has gone about his business in a quiet, controlled manner.
Now, he's decided to speak out as he - through the aid of an interpreter - as he pleads for Blues to create equal fuss on the official MCFC Twitter account - and his own which is under construction.
With City purring away at the top of the Premier League, Wimblydon said: "Who is this chancer? He thinks he's the cat that got the cream.
"I feel he's let the cats of England down and I don't doubt there is a claws in his contract saying what he did was wrong.
"Not only that, he's sought publicity for his actions. I don't want to get in a cat-flap about all this but there's something fishy going on if you ask me."
Wimblydon, who has out-lasted four City managers and counts actor Will Feral, Cat Stevens and Raymond Purr among his fans, hit the headlines in January last year when Mario Balotelli was pictured stroking him outside the Carrington main reception.
"It's just not fur," he continued. "I think he should paws for thought, consider his actions, get back into his basket and start from scratch otherwise he'll get dog's abuse."
Wimblydon has been in the news before when it was revealed that Mario Balotelli treats the cat as his own and has grown very fond of the moggy since they first met last year.
The club have now launched a rival Twitter account for the cat - @Wimblydon - and you can follow it for such snippets as:
