That wouldn't exactly be swapping Ronaldo for Messi.

That would be swapping Ronaldo for Messi + £50m

Why's that? It's slower than La Liga and he would be given a lot of time on the ball. I believe that he would do wonders there.

Ronaldo would probably score 300 goals per season down in Spain...

True, but,

I was basically stating what my conditions would be if we had to lose ronaldo for messi.

So you'd like us to sell him to Real in order for us to be able to compare him to Methi?

It was just a logical conclusion and an attempt to sarcasm.

look at his goals this season: right foot, left foot and headers. his pace and physique. his athleticism. we can ping a high ball forward and count on him to make something of it. we can ping it into space and count on him to chase and win it. he suits us.

i can't see Messi doing this for us.
agreed with these

He coped fine playing against us, and has coped fine playing against Chelsea. I'm sure that, if say Villa made the Champions League, he'd cope fine playing against them too.

He would cope fine in the premiership, assuming it is still football that we play here.

4-4-2? Has he ever played there? Ronnie compared to him is a traditional winger, if you get what I say. He's more like a wide second striker, cutting in, combining with strikers and scoring a relatively small amount of goals. Relative to Ronnie's tally!

If I was using my head, then yes. As well as Messi being every bit as good as Ronaldo (if not slightly better), he is a few years younger.

If I was using my heart (which I rarely do), I would say no.

If you were using your head, you wouldn't have dismissed the 41 goals Ronaldo has scored this season and the fact that Messi has recurring injury (yeah I know what the OP said but you have to take that into account).

I wouldn't dismiss Ronaldo's 41 goals, I would weigh them up against the obvious attacking talent of Messi, and the way he can create chances out of nowhere. Messi's age would be the clincher.

Obviously I'm talking hypothetically here, ignoring all of the complications that would result in such a swap.

Ronaldo is the far superior player at the moment. Messi can't boast a goal tally anything like he has, and whilst Messi could be better than Ronnie in the future, Ronaldo IS the best in the world.

Messi is not 'every bit' as good as Ronaldo, his end product isnt even close to Ronaldo's nor is his consistency in shooting (not to mention the height and strength disadvantage)

At the end of the day, Messi still often suffers from the 'too much dribble, too less end product' syndrome. I'm not doubting for one second his talent or how good he is, but sometimes, because his style of play is so attractive and mesmerizing, people seem to overwank themselves when half of them probably don't even watch the premier division enough.

Ronaldo is the single most devastating attacking midfielder I have ever seen in my lifetime. Not even Maradona had two domestic years like that. And the boy gets better and better. Why would I want to swap him for an injury prone albeit immensely talented player?

I see Messi as more of a winger then Ronaldo is. He is a better dribbler (Ronaldo is magnificent on that but Messi is even better and more effective) and a better assist man then our Ronaldo.

Stating that, Ronaldo is a better goal machine then Messi. He is tougher, taller, better in air, he has more of an eye to goal and would slot in better positions to score then Messi.

To conclude Im always a bit pessimistic about world class players moving from one league to another. Veron failed in England, Gazza in Italy etc. For sure if Messi had to come to England he will have to modify his style and start releasing the ball earlier. I cant see the English defenders be happy of having midgets dribble past them and make them look like fools. Ronaldo learnt the lesson and he is much tougher then Messi.

I think overall, Messi is the best player, when you consider both playing at their best. But I wouldn't swap for Ronaldo, you couldn't. Ronaldo has proven himself in the Premiership, he's been on fire for two years at this club now. And he's a United player, he's establishing himself as an all time club great

I want them both!
Agreed.

I'm telling you that Maradona never scored 70 plus goals in two seasons.

Maradona is a better dribbler because he has a lower centre of mass. Messi is the same. That's why they need to use their hands in order to score headers. That was just a small parenthesis so don't take it into account!
