Can I say Juan Sebastian Veron (before he joined United)? I always noticed him in Serie A and was thoroughly impressed with him in the 98 W/C. He was part of that powerful Lazio side under Sven.

I was thrilled when we signed him, and while we all know it didn't really work out, I loved the fact that we made a move for a player that the football world coveted at the time.

Otherwise I'd vote for someone like Romario or Zidane... and always had a soft spot for Paulo Maldini and Brad Friedel

It would be nice to get some non-obvious ones, i.e. Messi, Zidane, Ronaldinho, Maradona, Iniesta etc etc. I also say non-Utd because otherwise it'd be a big biased list.

For me, it has to be Riquelme (ok, maybe a little obvious), what a player he was. Some of what he did was just pure "WOW!", a joy to watch the guy play. I loved watching Zola play too, he was brilliant. As a winger myself, despite being cunts, Robben and Pires were great to watch too.

My "knowledge" isn't as vast as others on here, so maybe I can be enlightened!

Silva is a guilty pleasure for me too. He is a United player playing for City.

But Iniesta tops that list for me. I just love watching him play. Others include Zidane, Xavi, Messi, Bale, Ozil, etc.

One player I dislike watching now is Cristiano at Real, its just hurts to watch him as this robotic goal-scorer, when I have seen him as the tricky winger at United.

Rooberto Baggio was the obvious one for me. Favourite non-Utd player ever.

A few that I don't think have been mentioned:

Dejan Savicevic was a genius and a joy to watch.
Claudio Lopez and Enrico Chiesa were both erratic but capable of doing ridiculously spectacular things when the mood took them.
Ruben Sosa and Alvaro Recoba - two lazy, ball-hogging but jaw-droppingly gifted Uruguayans.
Marcos Senna - blossomed into a superb all-around midfielder late in his career.
Esteban Cambiasso - another industrious midfielder with a technique thats easy on the eye.
Christian Vieri - used to thoroughly enjoy watching him bulldoze through defences with ridiculous ease.

Yep, magnificent player. That generation of right backs was awesome. Zanetti, Thuram and Cafu were all great and nearly impossible to choose between.

Right now, in the Premier League, it's Bale. The boy is so explosive, a joy to watch (expects haters to throw poo at me now).

In Spain - Xavi. I never tire of watching that maestro at work (expects haters to throw poo at me now).

In Italy - No-one. Got bored of Serie A a long time ago.

In Germany - Haven't watched De Bundlesliga at all this season. Is Ribery still good?

Other countries/leagues - Meh.

Used to be obsessed by him. Travelled to a few random places to watch him in the twilight of his career.

Trying to avoid the biggest names:

Effenberg - What a playmaker he was. Simply phenomenal.

Yeah... I surprised no one has mentioned Davor Sukar so far... class player in his day (well before his move to the Arse)

Terrific player. Sammer is another one who hasn't been mentioned who I used to love watching. Andreas Moller too come to think of it. Rui Costa and Andreas Pirlo deserve a mention as well. Costa's partnership with Batistuta at Fiorentina was drool-worthy and Pirlo almost bore comparison with the current version of Xavi in terms of metronomic passing. And Edgar Davids...they don't make them like that these days in terms of combative midfielders...

EDIT: I've just noticed Dan's already mentioned Sammer.

Zidane, though in general I have a problem admiring players without dwelling on the fact that they don't play for United. I suffered from this problem most with ronaldinho most because of our failed bid to land him.

Iniesta and T.Alacantara. Iniesta since he's the best midfielder in the world and videos of his touches, movement and vision should be shown to academies up and down the country. T.Alacantara because he's going to be a future WPOTY, outstanding talent.
