Error opening Word Doc
I'm getting a file could not be found error when trying to open a Microsoft Word document. It also includes the helpful advise of *check the spelling of the document *try a different file name.
Any free recovery software? And what's the best? Cheers |

Is this a virus? My pc is running pretty sluggish in general now, but the internet is even worse. Even pages on the caf take a while to load where as before the pages would load in the blink of an eye. Also every time I go to shut my pc off it is asking me to install updates. And when the pc is on I have that little yellow windows update shield in the task bar, yet if I try and install the updates it tells me they cant be installed. I've no idea if the two are related, though I imagine they are. So is it a virus then? I can't see what else it might be, but AVG isn't picking up anything

Go: Start>Run>Services.msc Stop the services: Automatic Updates & Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS). Head to: C:\Windows\Software Distribution. Delete everything in that folder, then restart the 2 services you stopped earlier. Restart and try again |

I'm having problem with direct x 9, as in none of my games are seeing it. I gave up with my comp and decided to reformat yesterday, but this was a problem that occured a week or so before I wiped clean the hard drive. Direct x 9 is in there, I've downloaded it off the net and even installed it off of game discs, but its still not being recognised. Any ideas?

Do you have Vista? I'm sure Directx 10 came out for that.
If its XP then I'm not so sure, it should work if you have installed off the two sources you have listed. A few other ideas to waste your time with: Try uninstalling it and re-installing it. Run the Windows CD to see if it can find any problems. Go to a nerd forum and ask there. Buy a new computer. EDIT: Check if it is actually installed as well - Go to Start > Control Panel > Direct X - it should say there in the properties if it is, if not run DxDiag... |

do any of you fine people no a good software package for designing websites, i haven't really looked into it before but my old man wants to give it ago, ideally it needs to be quite easy to understand and pick up but still look pretty decent quality when finished. i have heard some good things about macromedia fireworks. is this more for graphics design or can you totally build and website and publish it without needing any other software? thanks for any help gentlemen.

Dreamweaver is generally used - its easy to pick up for beginners and has enough advanced stuff for the more high-tech websites.
Frontpage is another but many people don't like that program because its shit - I haven't used it though. If you are making a fancy website you could try Flash. There are loads of software out there and you can even make a site in photoshop if you know how. Many developers tend to code the websites themselves as you don't get computer generated code that way. It depends on what you want to make really. I'd say get Dreamweaver. Its easy to use and will do what you want. If you're looking for free stuff then no idea. EDIT - just realised I never read your post fully - Fireworks is primarily a graphics program but you can make site in there just as well. If you already have it and your old man knows how to use it then keep that. If you are looking for something a bit better go with Dreamweaver. Microsoft have made another program recently for this stuff as well so maybe you could look into that. |
