I don't know but I think you're well and truly fucked.

You say you kept on removing it - removing what though? you may have moved one too many things. Try installing it again?

Someone may know a lengthy procedure but it might just be easier to install it all again depending if you know how, have backups and the relevant software.

Were those updates along with Service pack 2 or were they separate? You probably did one to many things.

If choosing last known configuration or safe mode from the boot menu doesn't work at all then you may have messed up your windows install.

Try running the original Windows XP CD and when it loads up try choosing the REPAIR MODE.

Try that it may just fix it.

Yes they were belonging to service pack 2.

Alright spazzers, I want to replace one of my hard disks with a giant one and what I need to know is can I replace either an ATA-5 or an ATA-6 drive with a SATA drive? Wikipedia and the rest of the internet are no help on this since I'm shit with computers and don't understand the technicalities

U-Torrent problem!

After downloading 90.3 % of a file, all over sudden there is an error message

Error: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

The same thing appears on all my downloading files. What the hell is that???

Do you have Google Desktop? If you do, close/uninstall it.

Here is a link to that problem

My PC went tits up. I was writing to DVD and got an error message like 'Disk Failed!', before a blue screen saying Windows will restart to prevent a serious error. Anyway now it won't boot past the opening screen, I can't even get into BIOS. Anyone know if I can sort this out? I'm running XP

Actually I've sorted it, I had to reset the CMOS by fiddling around with the jumpers. Lucky I remembered I could do that, was shitting myself thinking all my unbacked up porn was lost forever

I fucking hate Vista. It is the slowest OS since the Amiga I had 15 years ago. Everything is deadslow, no matter what I want to do, delete, copy or move a single file, it takes ages! Shutting down almost a minute! Every single move I have to admin-confirm or allow, again and again! Damn you microshits!!!

Graphics card help:

I'm looking at buying a new pc from a specialist dealer, since I'm no good at building them myself but I don't want an "off-the-shelf" from pc world or whatever. The dealer I'm looking at that comes recommended from a friend (CyberPower I believe) and has two identical systems at an identical price.

Well, that's not entirely true. One of the systems is about £300 more, but it comes with a monitor and a five-hundred gig harddrive, whereas the other system does not come with a monitor and has only a four-hundred gig harddrive. For £300 I could get an equivalently sized monitor and still have some change left over to make up for the smaller harddrive.

The dilemma comes in the form of the graphics card. Both systems have a Quadcore 2.66Ghz processor, the same soundcard, the same motherboard, the same DVD reader/writer and all manner of other flashing lights and whistles, all of which are the same. The difference is in the graphics. One (the more expensive) comes with a single GeForce 8800GTX 768mb graphics card, whilst the other comes with two GeForce 8800GT 512mb (running SLI Mode -- whatever that means).

So, in essence:
One 8800GTX 768mb --or--
Two 8800GT 512mb.

The first is a GTX and not a GT, but the second has two which means effectively its 1024mbs, no? And 1024 > 768.

Thanks in advance for the help

How much RAM have you got?

You need 2 Gb MINIMUM to run Vista I'd recommend at least 3Gb.

Infact fuck that I'd recommend you uninstall Vista and use XP instead, it's a much better OS.

I don't think it quite works like that, but I believe you would be better off with the 2 x 8800GT running in SLi mode. I'm currently running a BFG OC 8800GT and it's fecking great, I've built my system to be SLi compatible when I can afford another 8800GT.

RAM 1014 MB

I checked on the Vista forums, all the people are totally pissed off, I mean even with 512 MB RAM it shouldnt take 20 seconds to delete a single file. Im seriously gonna go back to XP! Cant believe this!

That is very slow. But Vista is 'runnable' with 512MB RAM. I run Vista Virtual Machines for testing at work, and while it's kind of slow, you can do most operations without a fuss and certainly nothing like the performance you're getting.

If your motherboard has a SATA port, yes you can. If not, no you cannot unless you want to hunt around for a ATA to SATA converter.

Thanks, I can pick up one of those converters cheap off ebay and get a SATA hard disk which seem to be easier to find
