I have a problem. Everytime I switch on my computer, the lights on my cpu goes off within 2 seconds. There's no beeping sound or whatever. However the computer does not shut down because the fan still runs and I can still open and close my dvd rom drive. I don't get any images on screen other than my monitor telling me there's no signal. Any ideas what the problem is?

try taking out your video card and putting it back in. If you have an onboard video card... see if you can borrow a mates. Could be one of video card, memory or motherboard.

My monitor is getting green speckling on dark areas... sometimes it goes away, sometimes it's there... quite annoying tbh..

Anyone ideas? Had the monitor over a year now like, may just need a new one
(can't find monitor make/box now either)

Wondering if it could be any settings or just faulty hardware?

may be something as simple as a loose cable or bent pin Slevin

Take the monitor cable out of the back of your pc, check that all the pins are straight and then plug it back in again

Do this whilst your pc is off obviously

There will be a folder on the XP install disc called i386 - I like to take a copy of it over to the restore partition on my hard drive.

Tried using a different cable, was one of my first thoughts... will have another look at it actually, check the monitor and computer connections, as I only checked the wire connections... cba turning puter off to do it either.

thats what girls do. It really is fine to take your monitor cables out and in whilst computers are on. Your Screen sounds more like its got some 'lit pixels' You can probably get them to go away by pushing them in whenever you see them. They are better dead then lit. Depending on how long the warranty on your monitor is you might be able to get it replaced.

There's loads of the stupid things, I think it's completely borked tbh. Just gonna have to get a new monitor or plug this into one of the TV's.

Oh another problem, using Vista. Lately the computer is getting really low on memory really quick without really doing much... memory leak, but I can't see to find what program is leaking it... aint installed nowt new lately either :s

Yeah, had tried that, nothing seemed to be using too much memory at all... yet, I kept getting the messages. It's very strange indeed :/

I've a question which will be easy for most of you but I am completely stuck.

I downloaded a few files (basically old Commodore 64 games) and they were in compressed form. The website that I got them from was C64games.com. Within the website, it says you must have WinZip or an equivelant. I bought WinZip, but I can't get any of these games to work?

I'm dying to play old managerial classics like Tracksuit Manager, Soccerboss, 2PSS, Emyln Hughes' international football and Kenny Dalglish Football Manager. Sometimes FM2008 just gets too serious...

Once you have unzipped the files then you may actually need an emulator* to run these games.

If you have done the above then fair enough. The files may be corrupt, try others.

*a software that will basically pretend to be the Commodore 64.

A must have piece of software, FREE and it will uncompress nearly every type of extension.

Avast is good, can be a little slow depending on your computer. I use AVG free, no problems with it. Just use one of those 2 along with; spybot, spyware terminator (great), spyware buster (good prevention software) and Ad-Aware. That should do the trick.

Use Antivir from http://www.freeav.com/ or get a free ubuntu CD from https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

Right..Basically I was playing a football based game in my room the other month, and I fell onto my laptop. The screen is cracked, I can still see the majority of the screen, but a lot of pixels have gone black or green, where the main impact of the fall was..

Question is..How much would it cost for screen/pixels to be repaired?(Toshiba/6months old) Or is it not worth it? So I should buy another one..This one cost around 600, but I could probably buy the same model for 300-400..

You cant fix it. Its a replacement unfortunately if its cracked. After a while the black and green bits will spread and at some point you wont be able to see much. To tell you how much its costs for a screen replacement you will need to tell me the make of the screen. To do that remove the bezel and take the screen out and lie it flat and the maker and model number will be on the back of the screen. I had a chi mei and i got mine shipped from USA and it cost me 150 quid all together and i installed it myself.

It sounds like you might be able to help me, so thanks for taking the time to help me out.

You may have to be a little more detailed/descriptive of how to find the screen model number. As I don't know what or how to remove the bezel..

Yeh the black/green has spread, and gets worse with any type of movement to to the screen, will removing the bezel cause more damage?

http://www.lcds4less.com/laptop-lcd-...ructions.shtml

That will explain it better than i can in terms of removal. Although i dont think you will need to remove all the cables as you arent removing the screen totally you are just looking for the make. By removing the screen you the problem may worsen because of all the shifting and moving but to be honest you are going to have to replace the screen or the laptop now anyway so thats choice you have to take.

Give all that a go and if you need anymore help just post in here or pm me.
