Virtual Memory Minimum too low

Hi Guys

I keep getting a message coming up saying "Windows-Virtual Memory Minimum Too Low". Sometimes it can come up when I'm not doing anything on the PC, not even being on the Caf!! I've had a look at my system info and that says:

Total Physical Memory 512 MB Available Physical Memory 152.94 MB
Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB

The figures seem O.K. to me, but I'm a bellend when it comes to computers. Is this message anything to worry about?

Thanks

Derek

How's your physical disk space? How much free space do you have?

Also, could be a corrupt virtual memory file.

You can try clearing out the virtual memory, restart and set the virtual memory again

All double dutch to me, Justin. How do I do this? Also, I constantly have AOL Scheduler running, but I don't use AOL. Could this be anything to do with it.

Thanks, mate.

If your C: drive has less disk space then 2 gigs then its taking out of the virtual memory. In my computer right click your c: drive and click properties. Check to see how full it is there.

You go right-click on my computer and select properties.

Select the Advanced tab and click on settings.
Go to the advanced tab, there should be a section on virtual memory. Click on that. Select No paging file. Should ask you to restart. This should clear out your virtual memory page file. When it restarts, go through the same steps and turn it back on.

Another little tip is to turn on Task Manager. Under view, go select columns. Check the virtual memory checkbox. This will allow you to see how much virtual memory each process is sucking up, might tell you if there's a memory leak somewhere.

Couldn't find the "No paging file" bit.

On the Advanced Tab of Performance Options for Virtual Memory it says "Total paging file size for all drives 155MB and there's a button with "change" on it.

On the Visual Effects Tab, there's 4 check boxes
"Let windows choose what's best for your computer" (Unchecked)
"Adjust for best appearance" (Unchecked)
"Adjust for best performance" (Unchecked)
"Custom" (Checked, although I wouldn't have done that as I've never seen these parts of my computer before! It's like a whole new world in there! All full of gobbledygook and stuff. How the hell do you guys understand this stuff? )

Thanks guys.

Yep, sorry. "Change" is what you click on to set the paging file.

But the bold bit is a bit weird, only 155MB. Think that's why your getting the low virtual memory messages.

So, should I change it or do what you said in the first place? Thanks for your help, Justin.

With 512MB RAM, the ideal virtual memory setting should be:
Initial: 768MB
Max: 1536MB

So try setting that

Just make sure you have enough free space on C:\ drive

Hopefully that should do.

Cool, so yeah. Just try to increase the paging file size for virtual memory to those values above. And then use Task manager to monitor the virtual memory use and see if those low virtual memory messages still come up.

Thanks, mate. You're a star. All done as instructed so I'll wait and see what happens.

Thanks again.

Another U-Torrent question

U-torrent 1.7.7.

Im just downloading something from U-torrent and the download connection is ca. 60kB/s. However, there is a red exclamation mark symbol on which says

“Not connectable. A firewall/router is limiting your network traffic. You need to open up a port so others can connect to you”

What does that mean?

When I go to the uTorrent Speed Guide my Current Port is 43301. When I click on “Test if port is forwarded properly” it says

“Error! Port 43301 does not appear to be open.

Please see www.portforward.com for more information about how to map a port.”

I went to that website but I haven’t got a clue what to do next. Any ideas??

Do these tips, worked for me. I think changing the port to 45682 aswell the other tweaks really did the trick.

Windows Media Player 11 Help Please.

So we've upgraded to WMP11. Problem is it is now refusing to play Dvds. I have downloaded(and installed/reinstalled K-Lite Codecs 3.95). The Player hangs when I click play, seems to freeze, then closes, and gives me the following message. Any ideas anyone?

I had the same problem. Just use VLC player or GOM player, they are best in business. Will play any video without any fuss.

Yeah, that's what we have been doing. It just annoys me that it isn't working.

Cheers, but they are standard DVDs and not DivX that are causing the problem.

Could be anything.

Have you tried other Adaware or Spyware products besides AVG. One program won't pick up everything all the time. Adaware or Spybot are two names of programs I have used before.
