radeon 4850 is not available where you live and if it is then it will be fucking double its original price.
Can you give me your exact configuration?

By the way GeCube HD4850 GC-HD485PG3-E3 is available in India for a price arouind 10000. could it be in the same league of the HD4850 you were talking about ?

I recently just bought myself an ATI HD4870 and although the performance of it was superb it kept overheating (like most ATI cards) and kept crashing my PC so i sent it back and got a NVIDIA GTX 280 which i have had absolutely no problems with. If anyone does get an ATI card i recommend downloading ATI tool or the GAINWARD Expert tool for ATI cards and adjust the default fan settings to increase the RPM to keep the temp down. Other than that ATI are great cards.. if you get a good one.... If not, be prepared for alot of hassle..

And what benchmarks would those be?

The general consensus when i've checked around has been that SLi is slightly better.

Allthough i would be biased considering im running 2 X SC 8800GT's in SLi mode

Why don't you invest a couple of quid in an exhaust blower?

i experienced overheating problems with 2 superclocked 8800Gt's so i spent €20 on an aerocool exhaust blower and fitted it inbetween both cards and it solved my problem easily

Edit : me being lazy and a little drunk i didn't even read your full post.....GTX 280, very nice card....must have cost an absolute bomb though

that motherboard has a 8 pin cpu connector whilst the power supply you're getting only has a 4 pin cpu connector cable.

id suggest you get the cooler master real power pro 750w

and what does "9000" mean in HD4580 - 9000 ??

he operating temperatures on the other hand are not superb. The Radeon HD 4850 idled at an insane 71 degrees, while under load the card almost reached 90 degrees, which is just unacceptable. Even though this is an Asus board and they are partly guilty for shipping with this cooler, you will find that a majority, if not all current Radeon HD 4850 products from different manufacturers are shipping with the exact same cooler.

We definitely appreciate the silent operation and single-slot cooler design, but if we could have it all we would rather have a graphics card that won't heat up our entire case at idle!

We decided to investigate our cooling issues a little further. Considering the Radeon HD 4850 is based on a 55nm design we were sure the problem was with the heatsink being insufficient. Our suspicions were confirmed when we installed the Thermaltake DuOrb on the Radeon HD 4850. With the new cooler in place idle temps sat at 28 degrees, while full load temperatures went down to 37 degrees. These figures go way more in line with the kind of low power consumption levels that the Radeon HD 4850 produces.

asus card comes with a software called SmartDoctor through which you can increase the fan speed to 60% and reduce the heat dramatically. at stock the fan runs at only 30% thats why the card gets hot.

One from Palit is around Rs 9750 and one other from Gecube is Rs 10500,Same for Sapphire also. I've heard that the sapphire ones have an older version of bios.

boot into safe mode and change your screen resolution

the windows update may have screwed up your video driver, you may need to reinstall it

Thanks for that, mate. Strangely enough, I rebooted again and it seems to have sorted itself out. Wierd. I hate computers.

I keep getting logged out of each site I visit. I haven't changed my cookie settings or anything and this problem only started yesterday. I click the 'remember me' box on each forum so I have no idea what's going on. Obviously a problem with my computer and not the forums but I'm stumped.

If you don't mind losing all your settings and extensions, then do a full clean uninstall and reinstall of Firefox.

I think it happened to me once.

Bookmarks > Organise Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Export HTML... > Save somewhere (not in your Firefox directory, obviously).

Then when you're done, do the same but Import HTML... and select the file you exported.
