Sent. The file sizes are ridiculously small. They should be around 300kb but are around 25kb.

Hey guys

Trying to uninstall Symantec Antivirus. Didn't work the normal add/remove programmes route, so I went about stopping all the services to delete it manually. All the services stopped except for the one called Symantec Antivirus, which wont stop at all, and so I can't uninstall it. I've tried restarting. Anyone got any ideas???

I'm not really sure but you may not be able to stop it like that because it is an anti virus and in the event of an 'attack' or virus they may not allow you to do it.

Anyway you could try going on the site like the above poster said or maybe their forums.

The only real thing I could suggest is try doing all that in 'safe mode' but you probably have done all that.

I`ve now (for some reason) got this "Mirar" toolbar on my Explorer. It`s just like a nice Google toolbar except that it sucks and keeps on making noice.

I`ve tried removing by using the "view" alternative, like you would with a yahoo or google toolbar but I can`t find it there.

Any tips to how I can get rid of the cunting thing?

It will probably be there in your add/remove programs, so you can get rid of it.

Ok, can`t find anything called mirar. But there is only one program added today - It`s a Windows XP update. Could that be it?

No. What program did you install with which that toolbar came as an add-on? Could be a virus

Probably is, it just sort of appeared. A lot of popups came and I just clicked "ok" on some of them and there it was.

It most likely came with another piece of software or something you have downloaded/accepted recently. If you cannot remember then try doing a search in you're program files for 'mirar' it may bring up a directory with the uninstall files or the actual program it came with.

If all the above fail I'd suggest you run a virus check or spyware check. (search for Spybot in google if you don't have a spyware checker)

This will most likely bring up the infected files and remove them for you.

I`ve done a program search, and deleted the small files that turned up, but it didn`t help. I think I`m going to delete my Windows update as well, think that`s the root. Am currently running a virus check.

Mirar is sort of adware, this is what a web search brings up;

Mirar Toolbar is a toolbar addon for internet explorer. It has the ability to hide, and then re-emerge, making removal difficult and very annoying. Mirar attempts to find Web pages that are related to the Web page currently being viewed. It also displays advertisements based on the URLs and search terms used while navigating the Internet. It will also attempt to download and install the Mirar toolbar from a predetermined Web site.

This will tell you how to remove it

It's not an easy or quick process though your best bet would be to install a spyware protection program

I doubt the windows update will be the source of the problem as they are normally secure when downloaded off the Microsoft site. It will most likely be a piece of spyware/adaware. It is useless deleting the actual files as in many cases they are just brought back.

If you do the steps described in the above post it will be removed but it is tricky.

Highly recommended spyware and adaware products. (FREE)

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

Run the above and it may remove it and any others that are undoubtedly on you're computer.

Also a program that prevents them going on to you're computer which you do not have to run unless to update every so often.

I virus checker alone will not stop or get rid of the above problems in most cases so I'd advise you to install the above, which will stop you getting infected 99% of the time.

just use winrar and separate it into as many parts as you want, then if you want them back, just extract it
