Because the BBC are allowed to have advertising outside of the UK. Have you ever watched BBC World for example?

I'm sure they have adverts on BBC America. We shouldn't pay for them to broadcast to other countries.

The British public help pay for the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Those ads help to pay for services offered outside the UK.

The iPlayer isn't available outside of the UK is it? Or is that just downloadable content / certain shows?

i think cos international users don't pay licence fee, so thay can be shown ads. was on news a few years back, people were worried it would jepordise their neutrality/integrity/some similar word

You do realise don't you that if the BBC had ads rather than being funded by the licence fee, that the goods you buy would increase in price by about 2%?

Not really. I think the companies will just keep their advertising budgets there about but spread it a bit to BBC as well. So basically other channels will be making slightly less profits than they otherwise would.
