canned laughter

is possibly the worst thing on television. i absolutely hate the stuff. i can sort of understand shite sitcoms that no one would laugh at using it but when i hear it on classics such as blackadder i die a little inside. there is always one person with a really stupid laugh as well that stands out above everyone else’s. it was blackadder goes forth that prompted this thread. there is one woman on the laughter track who doesn’t actually laugh, the best i can describe it in writing is a really loud “nnnnneeeerrrrr”. i’m sure any of you familiar with goes forth will have noticed her before. any one else agree or am i just a little crazy?

There are some really horrible laughter tracks out there.

Although they make you learn to love shows like Curb your Enthusiasm, Peep Show and Arrested Development just that little bit more.

definitely, good shows just don't need canned laughter to show a viewer what is funny and what is not.

It is annoying when watching Blackadder. Although when watching Blackadder Back and Forth, I didn't laugh as much, perhaps because there was no canned laughter, or maybe the episode just wasn't up to standard. Shows can be easily successful without the canned laughter, they rely on the comedy to do the work e.g. The Office.

i hate to break this to you pop but that is not canned laughter you can hear in your head. it is actually real people laughing at your grotesque appearance and small genitals.

i don't think back and forth is up to the standards of the rest imo. i definitely agree with shows being successful without canned laughter, if it is funny you shouldn't be prompted t laugh, you will just laugh. the office is a prime example.

Depends what you mean by canned laughter. A recorded laughter track from a studio audience can really enhance the show, a la seinfeld.

It has its merits. Without any laughter at all, sometimes what was a funny and clever scene could fall flat and maybe even feel ackward.

It's human nature to follow along and laugh when others do..

i have no problem with the laugther of an actual audience watching the show as it was being filmed live, like QI for instance. i hate the crappy canned laughter that is added after the filming has been done.

all shit american sit-coms that use canned laughter are extremely annoying.

especially the really really atrociously bad ones that seem to use too much of the shit, it's almost as if they're intentionally taking the piss.
