Can you explain what this 3 layer IP masking is, in a few words? Google, for a change, doesn't give an answer. Does it have a special name, is it a kind of proxy?

Going by the name I'd say it's simply masking your IP in 3 layers - this could be done by using one web proxy site to access another to access a third before visiting the website through the third site.

I'm currently watching The Caf through two web proxy sites to see how it would work - first I used a site named unblockall, from there I accessed hidemyass and then I typed in RedCafe.net - I guess that be a 2 layer IP Masking, though that's only my logical answer.

In my little experiment the latest layer broke down after a few clicks, though that could easily be because I just chose some random proxy sites from Google - the "hacker" probably didn't use web proxies, and if he did, he probably used some which are better than the ones I just used.

such as VMware or virtual PC

So that's what happened, wasn't sure....
