Crowns

Early this year I had a root canal done. It was left with a temp filling for 6 months and then I came back in early September for a crown. On the 15th it was put in.

Problem is, first few days no problems at all, but since then it's been quite tender, especially when I bite down on it, I tend to avoid chewing on that side because of it. I don't understand why it's hurting, especially since due to the root canal, I have no nerves under that tooth. Is the pain normal, should I leave it for a while and see?

I went through the same thing as you; no pain experienced after getting the crown

it's likely just down to the fact that your gums and jaw are adjusting to a new-ish bite pattern. 6 months on a temp crown is a long long time.

how is the tooth for hot/cold sensitivity?

No the 6 months thing was a temp filling. I had the temp crown for two weeks.

Not really sure about hot/cold as I have tried to avoid eating on that side since the pain.

Mine was done about a year ago and I've recently started feeling some pain from hot and cold. What does that mean?

hmm. it is a lot of work that can result in immediate pain when the RCT is done. the onset pain after cementation is a bit of a problem. It's two weeks now since you had the crown cemented?

I would contact my dentist right away, you could have some infection under the tooth.

Ok cheers doc.

The pain is only when I bite down it seems and it's not major pain either, just a little soreness.

Often when undergoing RCT (root canal treatment) dentists are obliged to insert metal screws into the tooth to give it some added structural integrity. It's less common on large molar teeth and more common on smaller teeth. The presence of these screws can lead to very noticeable hot/cold sensitivity.

In some cases, the nerves do come back a little as well so there can be a bit of sensitivity as the treated tooth ages and transmits changes in temperature better.

that's the problem, there could be a little bit of infection right under the tooth. if it grows you can end up with serious problems, even death as the infection is dangerously close to your brain.
