Dentists
Are money grabbing bastards...
going to cost me 320 Australian dollars (works out to be about 3 of your pounds) for the first of 3 40 minute visits for a root canal. I told them to make appointments in the morning or afternoon so they put it at 10:50... spastics some people need to work to pay these rediculous fees. ![]() |

Lets say $160 goes to the practice, and the dentist pockets $160 for the 40 minutes work. That is $240 AUS a hour, which is only abut 80 quid. I know lots of people earning that sort of money, and most have a four year degree at the most. |

![]() 4 years undergrad 4 years med school 1 years internship 2 years internal medicine residency 3 years GI fellowship = 14 years, even experimental orthodontists arent in school/training that long, and it's not like that is as long as a neurosurgeon, etc |

Congrats to you, ER docs have it pretty well, what is it a one year internship and two year residency. Cool schedules too. I still stand by my posts dentists are greedy mofos who often reject insurance and federal aid

4 years Degree Year 1: Pre-registration house officer (PRHO) - one year Year 2 & 3: Senior house officer (SHO) Year 4: GP registrar They are technically doctors through out that four year training period, and many make the move to GP and never train again. Dentists do a four year degree and four years post graduate training. Many go onto to do specialist training after that. |

My wife has worked with doctors from many countries: Australia, India, South African, France, Spain, New Zealand, and of course America. She doesn't rate the American doctors that highly. The American system relies heavily on technology, i.e scans and tests, and the doctors instincts are below par. BTW - she reckons if you have to be stranded on a desert Island with one nationality it would be the South African doctors. |

Yeah actually that is one thing that has improved with standardized medicine over the year, since insurance doesnt like paying for the CTs, etc. American physicians have had to return to the physical exam, this would change if the government was paying for it all, which is good for radiology
. There is no doubt there are some shit docs(really shit ones, a surgical resident at an institution i wont name was arrested for dealing coke)over here but most of them are very very good, especially the new breed. It has become ultra fucking competitive just to get into med school these days. One thing I know if money wasnt an option and I could pick my specialists I probably would be hard pressed to find a better option outside the US, the technology comes with benefits as well. |
