One thing that might be worth looking at is the straight to DVD route. These are films like Football Factory that the marketeers know will get panned by the critics so they have no critic previews and a very limited cinema release then make their money on DVD.

yeah, i've sort f looked at that, and i work in a video/DVD renatl place too, so i'm more knowledgable than most when it comes to releases etc, but its all down to what is provable, and more importantly, what has a precendent. Cheers for the feedback, better than Plech and the likes!! (owwh the claws are out alrite!)

Judging by the spelling I reckon you work in a pub . Distributors also don't organise critic screenings for big budget turkeys to avoid the slating and also don't allow "unsympathetic" interviewers (ie people who aren't suck arses) access to stars. They also try to get "copy approval" ie they want to take out "negative" material in interviews.

Was Sideways an example of product placement or did the writer arbitrarily choose the lead character's favourite wine?

I suppose the most famous example of marketing through cinema was Star Wars and its tie in action figures; though that's slightly different to product placement. James Bond films are also famous for it.

One thing you should really try to keep an eye out for is Apple Macs. Apple apparently pay through the nose to get all the "good guys" to use their computers. Sony also do that to some extent with it Vaio range.

yeah, but its less about the hype that goes into promoting filums, though of course thats a factor, and more to do with are placements viable for marketing to set demographics, but i welcome your comments nonetheless.

apple really are fuckin ridiculous for it, so too Google, that Knocked Up filum is just a Google ad really.

In the case of sideways, i'm inclined to thinks thats just a bigass product placement. If a product is mentioned in a filum, you can be damn sure that someone is paying through the nose for it really.

BTW, the biggest one (or at least the one which gets the most attention) is the ET one with Reece's Piece's by Herseys.

OK, I think I got the wrong end of the stick - I thought you were talking about the film itself as "product".

You can't see a film that has a computer in it these days without it being a Mac.

I saw American Pie and then bought a pie to pleasure myself with.

I'm not doing that again.

Even if they do rescind my lifetime ban at Iceland.

I, Robot had Will Smith wear Converse, and make a reference to them. I think this had a negative impact on the sales (probably) because it was so blatant.

I Am Legend started with Will Smith driving a spiffy shiny Ford Mustang, which was in surprisingly good condition considering the world had ended 3 years earlier. It was never seen again.

At that point I realised that it was going to be a shit movie.

Wow, that was a bad example if there ever was one. And you are an idiot. Go see that Chipmunks movie...

Talking about product placement, I got to thinking of Fight Club. Remember when Brad Pitt put a picture of a penis in a film to see how people react? I remember hearing about Coca Cola doing the same thing in theaters to sell more Coke. Is it legal to do this? (Is it called subliminal messaging?)
