At least it was, until the Council went on a house building rampage, which now stretches Thurrock right out towards Lakeside (It still doesn't quite reach though, the mass of cross junctions that is the M25 sort of sits in the way). It's a usefull place to have nearby for most of the year. You can get just about anything there. It's a no-go zone around Christmas though, fucking people come from all over to wonder about aimlessly for hours. |

Ah chippy's..love em.
Can't eat a whole fish supper these days without thinking I made the wrong choice, mind.......bloatsville. There's summat you get in N. Ireland I'm not sure you get anywhere else: The Ulster Pasty. It's nothing like a Cornish pasty...it's not even a pie....Geebs and Robbo will know what I mean.......it's sausage meat and onion in batter and it's class....no, it's nothing like a battered sausage either. Available from all Norn Irish chippy's. Try finding the recipe on the net........there's an 'x' factor to it I haven't sussed in trying to cook it here myself. If you do, you're a better man than me..... |

Harry Ramsdens is not what it used to be. Loved going to the Guiseley restaurant (the original HR) as a kid for a special treat. These days you are hard pressed to find fish and chips on the menu
We went to the one in Manchester on Saturday and the fish and chips were insipid and tasteless. I don't think they are cooked in beef dripping anymore which is what gave them their distinctive taste |
