HD-ready/full scam

I'm into buying a new TV at the moment and I've read a couple of articles about HD-ready/full
scams where experts have made product tests where results show that almost nobody can see
the diffrence. Given that the prize diffrence between these two types are big, some argue that
the quality that differs (apparently close to none) doesn't make up for it.

Most TV shops show their TVs for sale in action with HD-channels, this is obviously of much
better quality than the normal TV signals that are aired to the public. Customers that are not
very much into this are tricked into believing that's what they'll see when they get home.
Do you have any say on this topic, would be interesting to hear...

There is a difference. Watching football in HD is so much clearer.
The problem I have is the amount of channels showing true HD. Sky charge an extra £10 a month for hd and then you have to subscribe to Sky Sports and the movie channels to get the programmes advertised in HD. That is the rip off.
Watching blu-ray DVD's is where you really see the difference.

Quality of picture may be better with an HD "ready" telly when receiving an HD broadcast, I do not know, but an HD "ready" telly is fucking shite with an ordinary signal, that I do know. If you can find a widescreen CRT from a good manufacturer, maybe for £200 or less, snap it up. Half of Britain is watching telly that looks fantastic so long as nothing moves, but when it moves, er football, you're talking fuzz, fuzz, fuzz.

The clarity makes the viewing an enjoyable experience. I do not know if Sky has a sports HD showcase channel which you do not have to pay extra for.

If your buying your TV from a department store there is your first problem. You need to read about them on the net not what some 16 year old says about it... then buy off an online shop for cheaper.

If it has 1080p is LCD and has a viewing angle greater then 170 degrees then your on a winner that hsould last for ages. Samsung is my panel/TV of choice.

All you need to do is ask what resolution the TV supports and if its not 1080p, its not a half decent TV.

Disagree, depends on the size of the screen and your viewing distance for one whether your eye can make out the difference between 720p and 1080p. also resolution is not the only determining factor in image quality.some pioneer and panny plasmas running at lower than 1080p blow the socks off any 1080p lcd for image quality, particularly when dealing with sdtv.

Do you know why that might be? The SDTV comment is a little strange as that has nothing to do with the type or resolution (ff course, the less you scale it up, the less artifacts you will get) of the panel.

You are however totally correct with the ratio between panel size and viewing distance.

It's bollocks, if you view a well encoded Blu-ray disc on a large 1080p TV at the correct viewing distance it will be far superior to what you would see on a HD Ready and on a different planet to a normal PAL/NTSC display.

Of course they show HD on the HDTVs, that's the entire point. If people are so stupid not to realise this and that a standard PAL/NTSC broacast signal will not look like that at all, then it is their fault.

It's not an exact science, but at least a reasonable estimate.

So far, I am satisfied with the 720p rendered by my Samsung LA26 51B which I bought about 3-yr ago.

I also notice the much newer 1080p sets are not made from the country of their origin. Of course there is the QC, but given between these two options, and the price difference, you know which is a safe bet.

I am perplexed by "the bigger the better" comments by some in real life who perhaps do not take other factors into consideration. Perhaps they are reinforced by the similar idea applied on a certain anatomy.

Well, it depends how far your sofa is away from the TV, and if you have a big bean bag.

I live in a small apartment, the distance between the T.V. and the sofa is about 7 feet.

The reason why many people say they don't see much difference between upscaled DVD and a 1080p BD is that they are sitting too far away from the screen for the size of screen they have.

I will mainly use my new TV for PS3, blue-ray movies and PC via HDMI, so I guess I would make use of a Full HD then..
