Horrible thing happened this weekend.
Despite my cavalier attitude and bravado regarding small animals I feel I want to relate this little tale to you lot. I don't expect pity, simpathy or empathy.
Driving along on Saturday afternoon the car in front of me hit a young cat, no more than a kitten really. The poor little fella took a bad knock and he rolled under the car and ended up motionless in the middle of the carraigeway. I avoided running over him again and pulled over to remove his lifeless body from the road. To my surprise, when I got to him I could plainly see that he was still breathing, albeit very laboured. His bottom jaw had been smashed and one of his eyes was not in its socket. His head was slightly distorted and there was a lot of bright blood exitting from his mouth and nose. Both back legs showed signs of being deformed, the bones where broken high in the legs. I picked him up gently and took him to the side of the road, where I knelt and stroked him and made the usual reassuring noises for several minutes while I observed his progress, or as it turned out lack of progress. His breathing over the next few minutes deteriorated into a shallow gurgle and I could see that he must have been in a world of pain and that the kindest thing I could do was end it all for him. You don't need the details of how I did this deed. After watching his chest fall still and his breathing end I had very mixed emotions. I felt sad that a young life had ended so violently, relieved that the poor little sod was no longer in pain, pleased that I had acted quickly enough to save him from at least some pain and suffering, and also anger that I had been forced to do what I felt I had to do. I left him on the grass at the side of the road, but later Saturday evening I was compelled to return, I wrapped him in an old sheet and then took him to the orange grove near to my place where I buried him under a tree. Solvista has a heart. |

You did the right thing. There is no need for an animal to suffer like that. Its a good thing you found the cat rather than Espada. I dread to think of what he would have done to it.

don't think I could just kill an animal even if it were for the best.
I remember my dad snapping a birds neck once to put it out of its misery, that was in really bad shape and barely alive. Just don't think I could |

Cats lick their assholes, therefore dont have very nice breath - this point should be noted in the Redcafe Minutes for future records to the few who will walk in our footsteps...
