Weeks pass. Though their tensile strength is impressive, the meninges are quite thin, and the infection breaches them. Now, infection and maggots set to work on his brain. Your brain just isn't supposed to be on your outside, and presents almost no barrier to anything when exposed.

Infection and maggots get to work on his brain. This makes him feel a little wobbly on his feet, and so, what do you know, he decides to see the doctor. He walks into the Stanford Emergency Hospital, where these photos were taken, just as you see him here.

Well maggots are brilliant at cleaning wounds, as they only eat dead flesh. They won't eat anything that's still living and attached to you, so all that you're left with is a clean wound, with all the nasty infected bits eaten off.

Those maggots might have been the only thing keeping that bloke in the pictures above alive this long.

Its amazing what people will walk in with...I once saw a guy with a squamous cell carcinoma of the face...he let it erode away for months and it was infected, necrotic, and was adherent to his facial bone (invaded his maxillary sinus)....Literally, his entire left cheekbone was one big orange sized cancer....shocking and nauseatingly smelly.
