Does not mean it was right. Don't think United would ever offer Ronnie more than 150k.
None of the big clubs in Premiership would pay Owen anything more than 100k, even that is probably pushing it given likes of Berbatov and Adebayor are touted to get 80k. Rooney at this stage is more marketable than Owen and far better player, he reportedly gets somewhere around 100k. If Owen had stayed fully fit for more than 2 mnths at Newcastle, then such a contract would make some sense, but given his appearance record, its mental to throw away such money on an unreliable player. |

What you have to consider is thetype of injury a player has. If a player - like Saha has consistently the same problems like a niggling ankle/knee/thigh that keeps him out intermittently that's a massive problem To be fair to Owen he's spent most of his time out at newcastle with a broken foot and the freak knee injury he picked up for England. he also player fairly consistently over the end of thes eason once he returned and got a few goals in one of teh worst sides in the league. Newcastle have to keep a plyer of Owen's calibre because they cant attract a player as good or better. Having said that he wont be getting £140k a week at Newcastle with Ashley trying to cut the wage bill. |
