Fergie Floored By Benzema Price

Manchester United have reportedly scratched Karim Benzema’s name off their shortlist altogether after receiving a very lofty quote from Olympique Lyonnais…

Benzema has long been touted as France’s next big thing, and is expected to vie with Marseille’s Samir Nasri for the title of les Bleus’ marquee superstar.

The latter is on the verge of joining Arsenal and Benzema has also been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League, as Sir Alex Ferguson is reported to be a huge admirer.

The 20-year-old was never going to come cheap, however, as Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has stated that for “€40m or €50m we would sell Benzema's ear”.

Reports indicate that United launched a bid three weeks ago but it is believed Lyon demanded no less than ₤48million (€60million) for the Algerian-descended youngster.

Hence, Sir Alex has turned his attention elsewhere, with ₤35million for Tottenham’s Dimitar Berbatov suddenly appearing a steal by comparison.

48 Million for Benzema ? 35 Million for Berbatov ? Where the hell do they come up with these lousy figures ?

I seriously don't see how they could be worth half that much given that both of them haven't fulfilled their potential as yet. Mind numbing bollocks, these transfer prices. Damn.

It certainly puts RM's talk of offering figures for Ronnie not much higher than that mentioned by Lyon in respect of Benzema in the bin doesn't it?!

Honestly, that would make Ron a 100M ₤ player surely. How the heck do they arrive at these figures is what I want to know.

I guess the just inflate/double the price since they have no intention of selling. So maybe we should let it be known that any club with a transfer kitty of 200M ₤ can come get Ronnie. That should scare the cunts away.

Not necessarily sometimes it's more offputting to a club when there is an astronomical figure placed on a player's head.

Aulas is a tough negotiator I wouldn't put it past him to chop off more bits and sell them to the highest bidder. You'll probably end up with an ear and his left bollock for about 100M euros.

I tend to agree. There are very few players for whom £35m can be said to be a steal. We own at least three of them.

I would be very very happy if Benzema was the only signing for us this summer even if we pay 30-35 mil pounds for him.

Lyon have a good reputation for getting top dollar for their Players, see Essien, Diarra. Combine that with the fact Benzema would rather go to Madrid, and the fact he has just signed a new contract.... big bucks.

We need to get Cantona to have a word with Benzema...

this is because real madrid have inflated player values by talking £75 million for ronaldo clubs use this figure as ayardstick for any player united try and purchase.its called BOLLOX

But he wants a lower release clause in that I thought. So that would mean he thinks Ajax might be willing to sell him for less. Either way it's still less than £20m.
