Why Carvalho? I thought he was one of your key players?

I think injuries and age are catching up with him a bit, he seemed to have lost a step. Carvalho'd still do well in Spain and Italy though. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up at Real or Inter this summer.

Plus, we've got Ivanovic and Alex both fighting for that second spot next to Terry, both are younger and have more upside than Ricky. Also, an 18 year old Dutchman Jeffrey Bruma will be the fourth option at CB next year, he's a great prospect.

Interesting. But I really wonder why would Ancelotti even think of a shift of Ivanovic from the right. IMO he was easily the best right back in the league last year.

What of Manciene. Has his boat sailed?

I've always liked Ballack.

Not as a person, but he has a style on the football field I really like. On the pitch, one of my favourite non United players.

Before he went to Chelsea he was outstanding. I've rarely seen him be any better than decent for them.

Agree with that.

For me it was more about his style than his ability. Since I saw him play I've always thought that if I was a professional footballer, I'd like to play like Ballack.

I can't see Carvalho and Ferrerira both going with Beletti gone, clearly Bosingwa getting back along with Zhirkov, Ivanovic, Ashley and Terry but the market for defenders is actually quite tight, I mean Smalling at £9m is a fair example of this. Bruma on when 2 central defenders get injured, seems quite a risk.

Used to be one of mine too before he went to Chelsea and watching him every week showed him up to be a massive cunt.

In 2002, I really felt for him, very nearly won everything all by himself. Immense player in his day, the most complete in the world. It's been a good few years since his day though.

Bosingwa was a starter before the injury knocked him out for the season. Ivanovic has done very well but he isn't as good going forward as Bosingwa is and in the system Ancelotti employs width comes from fullbacks.

Plus, Ferreira is on a good wage but really was a third option this past season.
I can see him being sold for next to nothing just to cut the wage bill.

I don't know about Mancienne, he's done well at Wolves and they want to keep him so it all depends on whether Carlo thinks he's good enough to make the squad. We've just sold Miroslav Stoch to Fenerbache, which came as a bit of a shock to most CFC fans, so I wouldn't be surprised if Mancienne and a few more other youngsters get sold, too.

Well, if you're a young talent and won't get a chance to play when two players ahead of you are injured, then when do you get to play? It has to start somewhere.

He was superb in 2002 really the complete midfielder, but he hasn't been anywhere near that level since.

He'd might do decent alongside Terry maybe, but Alex or Ivanovic ... seems a risk.

VfL Wolfsburg actually offered more (7 a year) - but Ballack did not want to join them.

Leverkusen don't want Ballack any more. Now THIS would be an act of desperation if Fergie made a move...

MLS bound I would imagine if he wants to continue competing at a reasonable level. Or China or India or the Middle East... Lots of retirement leagues now if he wants to be lazy

Yes, football goes fast. 5 years ago he was so good that he could dominate any team in either box. Probably goes in as top 3 all-round midfielder of his generation. I wonder how much this has to do with his wages.

Ballack is the sort of player we don't need. Someone who will completely slow up the game and take his time on the ball, not really doing all that much with it in the end. Top player in his day, though. He was one of the best all-round central midfielders of his generation, without a doubt.
