Chris Samba

Beast of a player. Played his heart out yesterday against Sunderland.

Think we should go for him, what with Vidic out for the season?

No, we've got plenty of cover.

The amount of average players some CAFtards would have at this club is staggering. Samba, Tiote, Parker. We are United, not a midtable club.

Stands out for Blackburn, good enough for a mid-table team, that is about it.

you just never know. Yorke was never a 25 goal man until we brought him but some players rise to the occasion and some don't. I doubt we'll do any business though

Samba is a great physical defender to match a smart defender. If I'm Wenger, he's high on my list. He'd be a good Terry replacement for Chelsea too.

Very underrated. Then again, I rate Huth too so take my defensive picks with a grain of salt!

How about Cahill, his contract runs out this summer and would be a useful addition.

Cracking player but we don't need him. He's shown consistently excellent form for Blackburn, surprised Blackburn managed to keep hold of him really.

No way. He's a glorified meathead. Pit him against skilful quick players and he looks lost.

I don't mind him joining United as cover for Vidic especially if Jones is going to play in midfield for the rest of the season and Rio being injury-prone, he'll be a very useful squad player. People say the same about Antonio Valencia but look how he has step up his game. Cahill is not very good by the way

Not based on his rapid decline this season.

Rapid decline?

The world has gone mad. A player has a few dodgy games and everyone says they're past it/in decline/not cutting it. Even our own fans are saying that Rooney is not a top player just because he had a few quiet games - he didn't even play that badly. If someone should commit the crime of being in a bit of bad form, fans go fecking mental.

Yeah, but he's shite. Can't pass water. We need our footballers to be able to pass. And outrun a turtle.

Well there is a reason he is still at Blackburn at 27 years old. He is now established. His level is about mid premier league.

Not even Arsenal took a punt on him in the summer and they were desperate.

For a start, he's been pretty dreadful against US in nearly every game we've played against them. Short memories...

I'd give my left bollock to see him here alongside Coloccini.

They are not average players, Samba is admittedly a poor man's Vidic.

I'm not so sure if I would want Samba here, to be honest. He's good for a midtable club to do a solid job and simply get rid of it, but we're looking for more than that here. We need defenders who can properly, and effectively, defend against the very best.

Unfair, it's about a draw. But no-one should seriously be thinking they should be playing for ManU or Arsenal.

Experienced cover? What would you say should (although unlikely ) that rio should pick up an injury and be out for any length of time?

Would you be comfortable playing a difficult run of games at the business end of the season with jones and evans as our pairing? consider Smalling will probably still be at RB for a large part of the season too i would suspect.

Yep id have him. Good pace, decent on the ball and would be a decent replacement with a bit of experience should Rio get injured.

I think it would be easier and probably wiser to sign Cahill in Jan and keep Jones in midfield till cleverley and Anderson come back, than it would to expect to buy a midfielder of the quality we need in January.

That scenario in my view is much more preferable than signing no midfielder due to lack of availability, and still having the worry of something happening to Rio, playing an inexperienced CB pairing, and having a severely weakened midfield in front of them.

Cahill could be a decent signing, but how reliable would he be? He's still quite young, and hasn't played for a top club on our level before. Would he be able to simply step into our first team and perform? I'm a bit sceptical to be honest as to whether he can or not.

He's just handed in a transfer request apparently...

Samba requests transfer | Latest Football Transfer News | Sky Sports

Where too next for the huge mother-trucker?? He's too good for QPR I would say... If Chelsea hadn't just bought Cahill (who isn't as good IMO) he'd have been good for them, as it stands, if I were Wenger i'd be straight on the phone. Also, surely Newcastle should look to spend some of that Carroll money on him... especially with Taylor out for the year.
