Craig Bellamy Back At The dippers?

Wales manager Gary Speed has welcomed reports linking striker Craig Bellamy with a return to Liverpool.

Wales manager Gary Speed has welcomed reports linking striker Craig Bellamy with a return to Liverpool.

Reports claim Manchester City forward Bellamy, who spent last season on loan at Cardiff, is being considered by Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish as back-up to first-choice strikers Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.

Speed said: "It is only natural Craig is going to be linked with top clubs because he is a top player. Liverpool are a fantastic club and if that is true and it comes off, that would be great."

He added: "Hopefully by the end of the transfer window things will be sorted out."

Speed named Bellamy in his squad for September's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Montenegro and England.

The squad shows few changes from the one initially selected for the Australia friendly earlier this month.

Striker Simon Church returns while fellow forwards Ched Evans and Sam Vokes are left out.

That pair, however, have been included on a nine-man standby list in case of withdrawals.

Aston Villa defender James Collins and Norwich midfielder Andrew Crofts, who withdrew last time, are again included.

He'd be a step up from Andy Carroll

Good player but offers a lot of similar qualities as Suarez without the same class, so not entirely sure why they'd want to go in for him other than as a back-up. Couldn't see him and Suarez working as a partnership.

Not a bad option off the bench either with his pace.

This is true. He's never been one to enjoy his time on the bench though. And an unhappy Bellamy's never a good thing for the dressing room.

Good point. He can play on the left of midfield/front three as well right? I remember the goal he scored when he made Rio look downright silly in the 4-3 came from him running with the ball from the left flank (after Rio gave it away). But I don't know if he played up top or out wide.

Good player, but an absolute nutter.

Still...don't want him going to the dippers for free. Will undoubtedly add bench strength. Even on a bad day he's miles ahead of the likes of Ngog.

He has agreed to go to Spurs not Liverpool.

Headline: Bellamy says 'yes' to Spurs

Content: Tottenham are planning a busy week themselves by signing Wales striker Craig Bellamy, 32, from Manchester City, who they play on Sunday at White Hart Lane. Having already taken City striker Emmanuel Adebayor on loan

He'd do a good job wherever he goes. Seems a bit of an odd character but generally does the business on the pitch.

Bellamy to Liverpool makes perfect sense. They only have carool suarez and kuyt as forwards.

What I don't understand is why this is such a big deal in the media. Bellamy has been a good premier league, nothing more. Certainly not headline material

Excellent signing on a free. Dalglish has done a good job overhauling the crap squad he had inherited from his predecessors. They may not challenge for the title this time out but a top four finish and participation in next year's CL may see them signinig the extra quality necessary to give it a real go.

Did a great job at City on the wing. Still has got a blistering amount of pace despite his crocked knees, strong and works hard.

Has always been a great player for Liverpool, and it's good (for them) to have him back.

Thought he was absolutely outstanding yesterday. Which was annoying. Although not as annoying as it must have been for Manchester City.

He's been a real pain in the arse against us over the years. Here's hoping his aged limbs haven't recovered in time for the game on Saturday after running himself into the ground last night.

He also played the full 90 at Bolton.

Where would they be without him? Lucky for them that they got him on the last day of the transfer window.

I never saw anything in him on his first tour of Liverpool, but at City he was very good. It's always nice to see a player with knee problems managing to carry on, even if it's Craig Bellamy.
