yeah im actually of the opinion that if ronaldo wants to go we should just screw madrid out of as much money as possible and then wait for him and ruud to fall out again...
IF we sold ronaldo it should contain conditions. 1) 120 million ..why not. no fannying about. 2) A buy back clause for the same amount...

I'm of the mind if we keep him and i hope we do it's great news. IF we sell him, well we know we'll reinvest and it will have to be quality so in that sense it's exciting to dream alittle.

with the extended subs bench, next season I'm sure we'll see a few young lads make their bow. Fergie wanted to put fletcher in when he was 16/17 so it's exciting times.

I would agree with one rule for the entire Europe. That would mean no 90 minute rule + no African and South American young talent who come to France or Italy at a tender age to suddenly change nationality and play with their national side.

BTW Amauri will be playing for Italy pretty soon. He was born in Carapicuíba, Brazil and he will join teammate Camoranesi who was born in Tandil Argentina. Italy will soon face 'France' which have Evra from Senegal and Makalele from Zaire,

This things can happen in Italy and France but not in England.

Rules should be a standard for everyone. Stating that Id rather see UEFA promoting freedom of movement amongst youngsters (with smaller clubs given ADEQUATE compensation for their work) rather then a close border system. I've seen too many youth talent whose career got ruined because they signed with some small club which have little means in developing them and who wouldnt want to release them once a big club stepped in. Take Manchester City's Bojinov, if Malta's small club Pieta wasnt kind enough to let him go, he would be rotting in the Maltese League by now.

I get the feeling he will also follow Pique route too and rejoins Roma in the future.

Yeah there is a possibility, but then again we could be seeing a player who has severed ties with the club he supported as a boy to further his career with the European Champions at a great youth academy with one of the best nurturers of young talent in modern times in the form of Sir Alex Ferguson. Therefore any other "dreams" being put aside for a determination to become the best for the best. All we can do right now is speculate but I have to say that I would hope that most of us look at this positively, we've gained a player who is widely regarded as the most promising youngster in Italy and one of the best young talents in Europe for his age bracket. Every player is his own and who knows if Petrucci's career will show any similarities to Rossi, Piqué or Zola's in casting new club colours and becoming a legend (as he was for Chelsea). We should back him and appreciate that the club have done all they can to ensure that we're looking out for the future as well as the present, we really have pulled out all the stops to bring in Petrucci.

Feck it. If he isn't quite up to it, and we make another £6-7m ish like we did off Pique in a few years time, happy days. In fact, if we bought another 100 or so of them, we could wipe out the debt in a few years time. I think I've solved the club's financial problems.

Yeah, but not on the scale that I'm proposing. Youthful talent, as far as the eye can see. One whole stand at OT filled with eager scouts from other clubs. The Glazers rubbing their prawn stained hands together with glee, chanting to each other, "This time next year, we'll be billionaires.", and "He who dares, wins". It'll be brilliant.

You'd have to be retarded, even by Caf standards, not to. Last summer we had a muppet smiley. I reckon we should get a sheep smiley this summer, for the 'if-rossi-can't-make-it-the-academy's-pointless/we'll-take-him-to-the-brink-of-the-first-team-and-sell-him/he's-here-for-the-money-and-will-be-back-at-Roma-in-5-years' brigade. Stupidity tries.

Great news that we have signed this lad. The more youth players we can get the better, especially when they are so highly rated. I can't wait to see him in action.,

mind you, in 3 years it'll be fletch asking for a transfer out to get first team football week in week out. so much for loyalty eh?

every player is different, every situation is different.

and yes, if petrucci breaks into he first team and gets regular games, i garuntee he'll be here in 5 years time.

there's a much greater chance that WE will sell him in 5 years, over him wanting to move out because of money or homesickness. his father/family is moving over with him and that helps for sure.
This is very different VW......no one in their right mind would criticise any footballer who has done their absolute best but decided to move on for first team football......Phil Neville and Nicky Butt are two recent examples....that example has nothing to do with loyalty......

....it is about being able to do your job!

Players don't become professionals to sit on the sidelines each week.......and even outside of football, if I don't get the opportunities at my job, if I am not involved, then I would look for a move.

As far as Petrucci is concerned, if it was all about money, he only needed to hang on for two years and he would have signed professional terms, so maybe he has other motives to join United.

Let's wait and see!

How good is he? He turns 17 in October so arguably you'd expect him to be on the bench next season especially if he is the next "Totti".

Roma fury at losing Petrucci

Sir Alex Ferguson has been accused of double standards by a furious Roma official after Manchester United took 16-year-old Davide Petrucci from the Italian club’s youth system.

Highly-rated forward Petrucci will join United after being offered a contract that dwarfed the money on offer from the Serie A side in a transfer that has angered Roma deeply.

Ferguson has made no secret of his own annoyance over Real Madrid’s public pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo and even reported the Spanish giants to Fifa over the matter –a situation that has not escaped the notice of the Giallorossi’s technical director Bruno Conti.

“They complain about Ronaldo and then did the same thing with David,” said Conti in Gazzetta dello Sport.

“His father Stefano has disappointed me. I will not be told any more lies. As for the boy, I wish him all the best in the world.”

While United have accused Real Madrid of underhand tactics in a bid to lure Ronaldo to Spain, there is nothing in Fifa’s regulations to prevent English clubs from taking youngsters from foreign academies before they have signed a professional contract.

Cesc Fabregas is the most high-profile example but United have made substantial profits from the sales of Giuseppe Rossi and Gerard Pique – recruited from Barcelona and Parma - in the past 12 months.

Why? The boy was not under contract so in certain way he was a free agent. The Italian clubs do the same thing to many African and South American young talent and have the nerve to give them Italian citizenship and play them with their own national team. So why should Roma complain?

Tapping up is tapping up.We've been accused of this before. It does not look good when putting your argument to Fifa especially if they have no love for the PL.

We can expect him to light up the reserves instead, then go on loan the next season and ultimately depart the next year for a fairly substancial £5-7 million.

2 or 3 years from then is when he'll be a really good player.

The kid is 16 and we took him because his club wasnt talking to him. Would that have happened with Rooney or Messi?

Talented prospect I'm sure. But the odds are stacked against him making it into our long term plans, for sure.

Roma did offer him a contract but didn't want to go above what they offer all their other youngsters incase it pissed them off.

That dispels any myths that what we did was "wrong" or "illegal". Petrucci had not signed a professional contract with Roma, they offered him one and we offered him one and he chose us. Simple as, we're not in the wrong here.

Of course, you could say that the system is flawed which it probably is but the same can be said for clubs in Spain and Italy being able to sign South American kids like how Barca did with Messi when he was 11. Also, for me, the whole 90 minute rule we have here should be scrapped. But these are the rules and what we did was completely fair, it was Petrucci's decision at the end of the day. Bruno Conti sounds very bitter and his argument is completely unfounded.

Which players in the Roma squad were poached African and South American talent? I can't think of any.

Roma actually seem fairly awesome at bringing through their own players like De Rossi, Aquilani and Curci. I hope Petrucci doesn't end up regretting chasing the money by signing for us.

If Petrucci is as good as the Italians are making out, then he should do well at United. Otherwise he'll be back there within 2 years.

Chasing the money? Yeah, that's the sole reason, signing for the English and European Champions as well as playing in the best club in the world at the moment and being managed by Sir Alex (one of the best nurturers of young talent) is no incentive at all is it?! Add to that being neglected and suspended by the club you're at for considering your options in probably the biggest decision of your career.

Some on here are very quick to assume the worst.
