What about until December of last season? We were not the same after Saha got injured, i have my doubts now as to wether he is the same player he was..

Ashton's goal was truly brilliant, yet so was Carlito's. He truly put himself out there to get the kinda back in it with that flash of brilliance in front of the goal.

is correct. I don't know where he has got this mythical status now.

Anyway, Ashton would be handy but his fitness record worries me.

I see this thread being bumped in about 7-8 months time and lot of posts will be laughed at. Seems like the Caf tradition that.

Apart from the goal he was not amazing. Good player but not the best for us.

We should go for a world class one not a good one. Benzema or another fantastic man who wins matches on his own like Rooney.

Yes, we were.

The only reason why we slowed down towards the end of season was fatigue.

just because they don't play for 'big' clubs doesn't mean they aren't good players.

I don't think any of those deals will actually happen but they are all good players who could develop playing in our team with world class players.

What has that to do with signing a decent player to be our third striker?

You honestly think Ashton is good enough to player for us, or any other top 4 team for that matter, never mind, the potential European Champions?

I don't.

How did you conclude that Ashton is better than Berbatov is really beyond my imagination.

berbatov is older, ashton would give different options up front, hes more likely to get more goals than berbatov considering he stays fit

Yes. Basically I don't agree with this "not good enough" bollocks. You don't need to be a superstar to play for united. Carrick was apparently not good enough according to many posters before we signed him. I bet you would've said Ole wasn't good enough when we signed him. Many decent players are good enough to be stay on our bench or at least be in the squad. Dean Ashton is more then capable of being our third striker. He is better than sick note Saha anyway.

He's 2 years younger which is hardly going to make a difference since he has no European experience whatsoever and hasn't played for a club of any size so far, West Ham are in fact the biggest club in his career thus I'd call him unproven.

How is he going to get more goals than Berbatov? He hasn't so far, Berbatov has been far more productive out of them two plus he also got a lot of assists and has a lot more to his game rather than only scoring. He's possibly one of the most complete strikers in the league.

Plus Ashton rarely stays fit, he's like an upgraded version of Saha although it's a bit like with computer games. Saha is unplayable, you could play Ashton if he were a computer game but you wouldn't really want to with the amount of bugs.

Ashton is good enough for a top 4 club as a 3rd choice, but he gets injured too often to make it worthwhile. And besides, that top 4 club is Liverpool who are barely that.

Difference is, Carrick was a part of an impressive Tottenham side the season before he joined United. Arguably the most important part of it, he also earned a lot of respect in English shirt. Ashton has been good for West Ham so far, but West Ham haven't really progressed since his arrival and they haven't been a threat for anyone (except us) in the league.

Some may see him as unproven, provided that he hasn't really attracted interest of any team except us (apperently) and Newcastle.

And I don't think we're looking for someone that will be simply the third choice striker and nothing more. The striker we are looking for will most likely play 30+ games a season as a starter and honestly, I don't think Ashton is good enough for that role. He may be good for an emergency striker role at club like United, but we need someone better now.

That's why the names like Benzema and Berbatov are being mentioned.

No, but you have to be better than Dean Ashton. I'm sorry, but we can do so much better.

And what I mean by my 'we're not Liverpool' comment', is that they have a habit of buying average Premiership players, Pennant, Benayoun, Crouch to name a few, and that is exactly what Ashton is. If it was Liverpool or Chelsea being linked to, or buying Ashton, they'd be a thread on here, full of green smilies.

Depends on what the 3rd choice striker's role will be. It's not always the same. With two striker of a similar style in Tevez and Rooney, both lacking height, we will need someone who will bring diversity to our frontline and at the same time will not be significantly worse than any of them. That's when the likes of Benzema and Berbatov come handy.
