Defoe
Something similar to what I've been saying since last summer:
The Mirror believe a move is in the pipeline Ananova report: Manchester United are ready to make a £10million swoop for Jermain Defoe if West Ham lose their battle against relegation, says the Daily Mirror. Sir Alex Ferguson has first option on the striker and talks have already taken place about a move to Old Trafford. Defoe has a price-tag of at least £10m on his head, but United believe they could snatch him away for just £7m if the Irons drop into Division One and are forced to sell. |

10 million is bollox, but it would explain Fergie's praise of that loser Roeder earlier in the year - get them relegated and buy Defoe.
Btw, I'm convinced it was Fergie's "praise" that saved his job in November. It still shocks me how the media are complicit in promoting people's agendas. |

Good player, not as much potential as Cisse... not for £10m and no way at the expense of Cisse, who had a strong game last night, imagine what he could go in a world class team like ours!!!
The thought is mouth watering...ooops maybe not thats just the dribble oozing out the side of mouth from the boredom induced sleep I had from watching the dippers play last night! |

He'd definitely be worth an offer. If West Ham are relegated then there's no way any club will pay £10M for him. Look at how little Middlesbrough had to spend to get Christie and Riggot (< £5M). ManU are the only big team he's likely to sign for.

It would be bloody dangerous selling Defoe. Pav is almost certain to leave and Adebayor is by no means guaranteed to be here next season so we could end up having to buy 3/4 new strikers for next season.
We keep Defoe, he's our top scorer this season and tends to play well when there's international tournaments in the summer. And if Ade and Pav leave, I'd like the security of one recognised striker in our squad, especially as our wage structure has seemingly prohibited us from going for the likes of Llorente/Rossi/Forlan etc. And why would we sell Defoe to Liverpool? Pav and we're talking.... |

Ah ok.
Liverpool seem to have a bit of a thing for Defoe, Benitez spent one January a while ago telling anyone who would listen that we were apparently desperate to swap Defoe for Cisse. If we were, I'm not really sure why he would be spouting about it like that. Liverpool can go for Bent instead and watch as he scores goals but ruins the play of the team. |
