I'd love it if Campbell turned into the next Striking superstar i truly would. But (and its a big but) i just don't see it happening.

Campbell has done nothing so far to convince me that he can be anything other than a backup player for a top premiership side.

If Campbell had come through the youth ranks at any other club we wouldn't even be entertaining the idea that he's what we need.

If Campbell had come through the youth ranks at any other club, we would know very little of him.

I'd be happy for anyone in the first team squad to play a semi final in the CL, and seeing as I think it is time for Campbell to step up into the first team squad, I'd be happy to play him in any given game.

But do you not think that maybe Campbell will considered first team more out of desperation regarding lack of options up front rather than having the required quality needed?

I'm English and i'd fucking love to see an English striker come through our youth ranks and be a success, i truly would. But i have major doubts over Campbell. I hope my gut feeling is wrong.

While I would be more than happy to have Campbell as one of four main strikers in the first team squad, we currently only really have three strikers (including Campbell and excluding Saha who is a waste of space)

I'd even be happy if we started the season with

Rooney
Tevez
Campbell
Manucho

But that depends upon getting him a work permit.

Failing that, I'd be delighted with a player like Benny McCarthy for around 8 million.

I don't know if, whether or why Campbell will be considered for the first team. I can only speak for myself, and I would hope he gets a chance to prove himself in the first team squad.

I watch all our reserve games on MUTV and have done for the last 6 seasons. Campbell is one of those players that I reckon has a chance, albeit small, of making it at the club.

A lot of it is about timing to be honest. John O'Shea was very fortunate that he got his chance when we had a number of injuries at the back and the club was going through a tough patch results wise.

The same may be true for Campbell.

The young player I rate the highest at the club is Johnny Evans. Some players just look like they were born to play football and he is one of those. He is the one I would keep above all the rest of the current crop.

Sylvain Blake was a player who also could have made it with us, but he suffered from an injury just at the wrong time. I reckon he'll be in the premiership for a club like Villa or Blackburn within a year.

Even Sir Alex has expressed his doubts now. He said "Its a concern" and it truly is for us all. Im not happy with the way things currently are. Something needs to happen that will ease all of our fears.

In relation to striking options? He needs to do something so.

Even Rio said that had Saha been fit and been available to provide another option we'd have had the Premiership title sewn up sooner than we did.

Now that the Ronado circus has died down all ours efforts as a club must now go towards purchasing a striker.

As i have said before it is paramount that we hit the ground running this year. With all of our rivals strengthening we will not have the luxury of dropping many points at all. We must start well or we will be playing catch up all season long (Hypothetically of course).

If chelsea sign robinho ill start to doubt our chances if we sign no one. nicky butt in the paper said 'if you stand still you go backwards' and i think hes right. Theres little between us anyway.
Weve got money (or have we?) lets strengthen where we NEED to.
If we would only sign berbatov or eto'o for example, everything would be aaalright!

Some people think that we will move forwards simply by keeping the current squad. That may be true in some cases but we do have a potential weakness that could become problematic during a long season. Fergie is concerned and so are most of the fans. Sometimes, giving a clear statement of intent to our rivals is the only way to progress.

Obviously there's always a buzz about new signings. It pep's everyone up. Players and fans alike. Its always good to have a new challenge.

A couple of other things to ponder...

Two many signings and it disrupts what you already have while everyone gets used to each other. Liverpoo are a classic example of constantly changing too much. They take 2 steps back to make 3 forward (some would say more!). As champions we have the luxury of being able to tweek rather than change our squad. Great situation to be in.

We have a very young squad. The more they play together the better they will become. Anyone who's played will know this; the more you play with teammates the more intuitive your play is. You know where they want the ball and vice versa. How great a sight is it when Scholes plays in a teammate without even looking; he just knows where they'll be.

SO WE CAN IMPROVE even without signing anyone.

Personally I think its blindingly obvious that we need another striker, but its not the end of the world if it doesnt happen just yet.
