From England left back to Nottingham Forest loanee.

Quote:
Nottingham Forest have struck a deal with Aston Villa to bring in left-back Nicky Shorey on loan.

The former England international will stay at the City Ground until the end of December and will link up with his new team-mates on Thursday.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill has the option to recall Shorey, who has two England caps, but only 28 days after the loan begins.

The 28-year-old looks set to make his debut in Forest's home game against Doncaster on Saturday.

Shorey began his career at Leyton Orient before making a name for himself at Reading, where he made over 300 appearances in seven successful years.

After first catching the eye of former England boss Steve McClaren, O'Neill brought the full-back to Villa Park in August 2008 for an undisclosed fee.

However, Shorey has struggled to make an impact at the club and after playing just once since August, he will aim to regain his fitness at Championship level.

That says a lot about the quality in depth of England left-backs... there really is nobody after Cole. It's either Bridge (who's shit) or Barry (who's a midfielder)

That wasn't always so with Bridge, he wasn't getting starts with Chelsea for the sake of sentiment.

And Gibbs is certainly one for the future, in fact i'd even give him an outside chance of making the World Cup squad if he gets enough games later on in the season and is in good nick.

Why is it always Chelsea's fault when players don't turn out good enough? He was first choice when he came and remained so until he got a major foot injury in early 2005 that kept him out of the game for the best part of year, to recover fitness he spent the spring of 2006 at Fulham and in that summer Ashley Cole came.

There's also Warnock at Villa. His arrival is why Shorey is out.

Sorry, I did forget Gibbs just then - and he does look very promising. Not sure Warnock is international quality to be honest.

I wasn't blaming Chelsea for Bridge being poor now, and he obviously did show a lot of potential at one point. But for whatever reason (injury, Chelsea, City) he's currently a very, very average player who City wasted a lot of money on
