Euro 2008: Talent that's caught your eye

Should be a sticky really as the subject of this thread will be going on for a month and the discussions beyond that.

We've had two days and four games so far. Who has caught your attention? Who might serve our immediate and long term needs and of course, young emerging talent.

I haven't been able to watch any of the games so far so I'm unable to suggest anyone.

Modric looked good yesterday, keeps control and a top pass ratio. Good buy for Spurs IMO.

Moutinho looked class for Portugal, would love a player like that in our side but just dont see where we could fit him in.

Moutinho for me too.

Looks a natural successor to Scholes. And would fit in nicely with our other Portugese speaking counterparts.

Lahm also. But we already know he is the real deal.

Fritz of Germany was useful from what I saw. Up and down the field, very direct and a good eye for a pass/cross.

If you wanted an attacking right back in the Evra mould, then Sabri the Turkish right back is your man.

- Moutinho looks some player.

- Meireles, or the bloke with ink that scored the goal, reminds me of Flamini. Cant gauge exactly how good he is, to be fair he has had Deco and Moutinho in front of him so...

Bosingwa looked average, anybody else agree?

Edit: Fringssss looked like a very good player, would be perfect for Arsenal.

Totally agree with you. I thought he gave the ball away to easy. His decision making in vital positions was poor. I thought Pepe was outstanding for Portugal at the back. I also thought that Moutinho was very classy in midfield, he is a great passer of the ball and makes football look easy. Effortless. I also thought Fritz for Germany looked good but I think it is very early to start judging players. I think after the next gameweek we will start to see a few shine through.

Moutinho will be excellent attacking midfielder in the future.

I hope we'll see more of Miguel Veloso in this tournament.

Dunno about young and emerging talent but have to say Lahm stuck out for me the other day.

There was another 20 odd year old there who was okay in the Portugal match. Ronaldo I think his name was. Hit the post too.

The usuals.

Modric - more than Moutinho, Podolski, Frings and Lahm.

Fritz looked terribly average and too greedy to me.

When talking about talent, does it have to be someone young?

Pepe was very good for Portugal.

So far Moutinho for me. Pulls the strings for Portugal. And for someone that young is impressive and can only get better.

Lahm as well. Very agile and really covers the wings well.

Generally speaking, was very impressed by Germany and their style of play. Had a refreshing zest about themselves that past Germany sides do not possess.

Another vote for Moutinho, he still plays for Sporting yes? We need to make sure we're the team that takes him off of their hands. He's one we cant let go to a Barca or Real Madrid

Lahm continues to impress but I knew he was class before this tournament, Frings looked good as well albeit we're not in the market for his type of player.

Oh and for the record I was impressed with Bosingwa

I like that Srna who plays for Croatia, not the most talented player but he works his bollocks.

Behrami looked good, Bafetembi Gomis had some good touches in his France cameo and van der Vaart has had a good first half for the Dutch along with de Jong

Was it or was it not the first half where he displayed that exceptional touch on his left thigh and then volleyed it with his right boot?

I dont agree with this.

He could be good - looks very athletic etc, but was not troubled, certainly much as i would have liked him to have been tested by the Turks.

He does not look too bad going forward, nothing special, he does not look so self assured defending in from the oppositions half though - not like our paddy.

And then did nothing else until the 90th minute of the game.
