Sneijder only turned 24 today, Van der Vaarts 25. Two gems there. Very similar players aswell. Goes to prove that similar players CAN work together, destroying the myth of Gerrard and Lampard who in truth are just overhyped beyond their abilities.

Engelaar, looked good tonight, however I have reservations that he's so old, and for some reason he reminded me of Carlton Palmer, but with a modicum of ability.

Well they are not that similard. Lampard can't control a game, someone like Ballack or Gerrard can.

Engelaar & De Jong both played well. I was also surprised with Romania's style of play. Very team oriented, and focused on connecting passes at speed.

Ribery and Benzema had an okay game despite the fact that France were utter shite. Still don't know why Abidal is ahead of Evra and don't understand what Malouda offers to the team. They were both a piece of trash.

Engelaar was immense, but the fact that he is 28 still plying his trade in the Eredivisie suggests he just had a good game. Maybe worth keeping an eye on if he continues playing well.

Van Bronkhorst today was superb.

his buyout clause is very low.

moutinho's isn't much higher either.

interesting question this.

VDV or moutinho?

who you lot like more?

i've always liked vdv, he was a legendary target for transfer muppets on here when he was at ajax.

Not that we want either of them, but credit where it's due, they did well.

Engelaar is one of those players who has struggled to find the right role until recently. He was played wide left early on in his career then behind the front two and only recently has he been playing the kind of holding role at which he's excelling.

y the way I was hugely impressed by Christian Chivu playing the holding role in midfield for Romania today. He was superb. I remember Paul McGrath doing the same thing under big Ron and occasionally for Ireland. Chivu (admittedly just on today's performance) looked a match for any holding midfield player around, he wasn't simply destructive but used to ball very well and even creatively at times. It was a huge performance.

Van Der Vaart and Sneijder impressed me again. They had some wonderful combination passes and both surprised me with their work ethic.

Chivu from Romania impressed me in the earlier game too, very combative and also passed the ball effectively.

He's too similar to Carrick, I seen him in the warm up against Wales just before this match and knew what he was about, he can control the midfield brilliantly.

He's just like Huddlestone except he knows how to use his physical presence. Both are brilliant passers and can control the pace of the game.

Bollocks, just because he didn't stand out doesn't make him a bad player. It's called keeping it simple, you can't always go for the extravagant pass.

Moutinho and engalaar, podolski (good touch good burst of pace).

Benzema dissapointed but then again so did the whole of the french team. Contrary to the bbc I actually thought anelka was the best of the french forwards, made good runs and showed glimpses of class.

Get fucking abidal out and evra in they need some fucking passion and he'll give you that. Have some balls domenech u kunt.

Go watch the game again and stop spouting other people's opinions. He was either non-existant or they just wouldn't pass to him take your pick. He was the least effective of all the midfielders but you think he was keeping it simple

Someone must have the game stats he must have touched the ball like 5 times total. The play was always around ronaldo while moutinho would watch from the other side of the field. he was clearly a passenger in the game.

Doesn't make him less of a player he's been doing it at club level for 2 years.
