We should sign him
and his threatening look alone could easily win us more games over a season

In my previous post I forgot to add, that if we really want to sign Ribery, then we have to secure this deal before the World Cup.

After a good performance at World Cup, his price will increase significantly and it's far more than likely that he'll shine in Germany.

But I really can't see us signing him, Lyon is a lot faster than us in terms of speed in the transfer market.

The Daily Mirror reported today that United may make a bid of £10m for him.

Le Tessier always conjured something out of nothing in the dying seconds.

So far, Ribery has been dubbed the next "Zinedine Zidane". I dont like this when press over-hypes players who hadn't proven themselves yet. The thing gets to their head and it inflates.

Chelsea are looking for a winger, would anyone be surprised if they made a bid?

Our main target doesn't always have to be our first purchase... Ribery would be an excellent buy, would wipe out Arsenal's purchase of Rosicky anyway...

The New Zidane

United have lined up a £10m move for "the new Zinedine Zidane". French international midfielder Franck Ribery has been monitored closely by Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson who considered signing the Marseille playmaker in the January transfer window. Ribery, 23, wants to leave following the departure of club coach Jean Fernandez. He is also a target for Lyon. But the French champions have angered Marseille by publicly courting Ribery - dubbed the new Zidane - and they are ready to sell him to United rather than letting him join their French league rivals.
Article on the Daily Mirror

Who is this guy? Anyone seen him play?

He's not the new Zidane as he's a winger with a totally different style of play...Some young French talents were dubbed 'new Zidane' like Meghni, Meriem, Ben Arfa, Nasri, etc. None of them confirmed their potential it's true. But Ribéry's game is more based on speed and running at defenders, dribbling and crossing.

Anyway no club will get him for 10M£, Marseilles will demand much more.

Why so pessimistic? Not every young rated talent turns out shit, proven by the fact there are decent players in the world.

For every Cheryou you've got a Pires, for every Guivarch a Trezeguet, for every Boumsong a Cygan, a Silvestre or an Evra. Ok, shit example.

Rothen is injury prone and became professional at the highest level quite late in his career...Moreover his game is mainly based on his left-foot crossing, that's not much.

Ribéry has speed and technical skills with both feet, he always plays with great commitment. In two years Ribéry has gone from French 3rd division to becoming French international...Most of the young players dubbed 'new Zidane' never even played for the French national squad but Meriem maybe.

I don't know if he'll make a great career but so far he has made a lot of progress. He's been the best player for Marseilles this year and voted French young player of the year.

The pb with him might be that he changes club too often, and that he is a bit impulsive and not easy to manage.

Apart from that he's very different from the usual French starlets who only got a few technical skills but no physical or mental strength...

How many positions can Ribery play? I was told he played OM for the French U-21 side? Can he play as well centrally as he does on the wing?

Can he play both wings?

He's more at ease on the wings i think. But i've seen him play as playmaker behing two forwards, or even as second forward.

I'd say that his style of play makes him more efficient on the wings. As i sometimes say, he is in some extent a less flashy version of Cristiano, likes to dribble and use his speed. Less experienced and smaller, but plays more for the team.

For the time being he is not a world class player anyway, but could turn out to a very good player.

He might be compared to Aaron Lennon actually, who managed to become an English international though one year ago he played in the Championship. Their skills are quite comparable as well...

Watched him play couple of times. He plays on the left and also drifts inside and breaks defences in the middle.

Too expensive imo. He'll be at least 8-12m. Unless we have a huge budget, we need to spend elsewhere.
