Granit Xhaka

Manchester United transfer news: Basel midfielder Granit Xhaka also wanted by Juventus | Give Me Football

Quote:
Juventus are lining up an offer for Manchester United target Granit Xhaka according to talkSPORT.

The 19-year-old FC Basel midfielder is rated at around £6million, and has attracted attention from a host of major European clubs, with a number sides in Serie A interested in the Swiss international's signature.

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been heavily linked with a move for Xhaka, as he looks to add fresh blood to his midfield ranks at Old Trafford.

Having recently coaxed Paul Scholes out of retirement for the remainder of the season, Ferguson insists Manchester United will not be rushed into making any further signings this month.

However, with reports in Italy suggesting that the likes of AC Milan, Lazio, and now Juventus are weighing up bids for Xhaka, the reigning Barclays Premier League champions may be forced into making a bid or else risk losing out on the player altogether.

Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in Xhaka's club and international teammate Xherdan Shaqiri, but it is understood that the former is now Ferguson's preferred target.

Basel are keen to keep hold of both Xhaka and Shaqiri during the January transfer window, but given the strong interest in the talented midfielder their hopes may be in vein, with a bidding war seemingly just
Ok, the sources are crap so probably nothing in it.

But would be nice to get some info on him. Did he play against us?

Also his name rhymes with Kaka.

Unlike our current players, I bet he doesn't take the Champions League for Granit.

His name rhymes with Kaka? Screw that. His first name is Granit. I know it's spelled granite in English but it looks the same to be. Well hard. And Xhaka. Sounds like a bad guy from Conan the Barbarian stories.

Media doesn't hate suggesting United having interest in Basel players.

I'd prefer shaquiri considering galatasaray might get him for 10mill

Him, Frei and Shaqiri stood out in that Basel side and our midfield didn't have much joy against them so it might not be the worst idea in the world to buy both him ans Shaqiri, especially as they definitely represent value at roughly around £15m for both according to reports.

Young, looked talented vs us. Would be a good signing if we could get him relatively cheap. He is young enough for us to mold him into a decent United player

I think Shaqiri was the big profile in that game, but then SAF has got the eye to spot the real talent and see the bigger picture when it comes to transfers. That's the most impressive thing about him.

He is doing ok in the Swiss League and considered as one of the bigger talents in Switzerland (together with Frei, Rodriguez, Stocker), but all of them are below Shaquiri. He's already the stand out player and while I can see Xhaka playing for a good club in the future, I doubt it will be enough for a top 10 club

I didn't think he looked too great in the Basel game, from what I remember he basically just ran around fouling everyone. My memory could very well be off though.

Couldn't find a thread on Shaqiri but he is set to join Bayern Munich in the summer for a fee of around 9m Euros. Only a few details to be sorted out and the transfer is done.

It looks like he's on the way to Monchengladbach in the summer.

It would be really a great signing for a club like Monchengladbach.

Fee thought to be around 6-7m Euros - excellent replacement for Neustädter, who will join Schalke in the summer.

Any reason why we've not got involved here? Bit annoying when the likes of Ozil, Sahin, Xhaka are all going for very reasonable fee's.

Xhaka isn't in the same league as Ozil or Sahin, Shaqiri was the massively talented one.

Well, maybe he isn't good enough...he went to Monchengladbach, which probably means that there weren't too many big clubs after him

We'll see but i'm sure Xhaka will be in Monchengladbach not longer as two seasons.

Or that the Bundesliga is a smoother transition for Suisse German players

Now officially signed for Borussia Mönchengladbach. Great replacement for Roman Neustädter, who's gone to Schalke 04.

The good is that Xhaka will play a lot more than Shaqiri is likely to in their first seasons in the Bundesliga...I hope they both get their chances to see their games grow

That it is - and both Xhaka and Shaqiri are both still pretty young and come from very close families. Shaqiri since some years earns the money for his whole family. And Basel is on the border to Germany and even if they speak some special German in the Swiss, everybody there can speak "real" German, too.

Like this they can improve and still are not to far away from their families and do not have a language barrier...
