If you knew what you know now about Sneijder and Nasri..

Would you have still wanted us to sign either of them back in the Summer?

What do we know different? No to Nasri as I didn't think he would fit our style of player, or really that he was unnecessary. No to sneijder as although a brilliant player, would be too much of a risk in terms of transfer fee and wages.

Knew what about Sneijder?

As for Nasri I assume the what we know now is that he's a bit of a bottler as many Arsenal fans themselves stated last season. I always like to think that Fergie can get more out of players than your general run of the mill coach though

That we would fall out of the Champions League at the Group Stage? I never wanted either anyway.

I suppose with Sneijder it's that there's been even greater confirmation that he's extremely prone to picking up muscle injuries and is very unlikely to ever get close to repeating his 09/10 form.

Sneijder would've only taken Hargreaves' place in the physioroom this season from what I've heard

I didn't want Nasri then, I certainly don't want him now.

I wanted us to sign Sneijder. I still hope we sign him. Injuries permitting.

I think Nasri would have been fantastic for us. I don't think Sneijder would have been worth what it would have taken to get him.

That's what 'most' of them are saying on here now. They weren't saying that last season.

Yes. Either of them would've sufficed to be fair. That said, we've got a cracking midfield.

Do you really think he'd have coped well with a big money move to Manchester United and all the huge expectation that would have been on his shoulders? At least with Sneijder people could rightly claim that he'd have had no problem with that side of things given that he's such an arrogant bastard.

He was pretty good for us all along and had an exceptional 6 months. He's a quality player and will find his mojo again unfortunately.

You're adding eggs to oranges and apples to bananas and coming to the conclusion that mangoes are the only fruit. GCHQ, are you saying they wouldn't have improved the first team? I think you're bananas.

No. Still prefer a "real" centre midfielder, which would be the other name that was being touted but wanted to go to Chelsea and in the end stayed put.

You can't really accurately predict what their performances would have been like for you based on their performances with other clubs. Nor can you even say with any certainty that Sneijder for instance would have been as prone to injury with you as he has been with Inter this season.

You still can't compare. Nasri could've flourished under Ferguson. It's one of those things that we'll never know. He has quality though. Perhaps he just made the wrong move.

I never wanted Sneijder, and didn't really want Nasri but he was a cheaper option so I wouldn't have minded getting him.

Still don't want Sneijder and am glad we didn't end up getting Nasri.

I'm honestly not sure they would have, no. What I do know is that waiting for the right player to come along will be of greater benefit to Manchester United in the long run.

Ney!

Sneijder is past his best and Nasri's best position is similar to Rooney's.

How do you know that neither of those players would not have been the right players? Their seasons could have panned out completely differently at Man utd.

Ferguson went for Nasri in the summer didn't he? Not like he didn't try, must have seen something there.

Well, I suspect Fergie thought Nasri or Sneijder could've been that 'right player'. Then again, not every player's a guaranteed success...and we've not exactly bought well in the midfield department...for some reason it seems to be Fergie's blind spot. But clearly they're better than what we've got - I think you're just being perverse.

He's been this prone to injury throughout his career so it was a fair guess. Sneijder just seemed like a big risk because of the money involved balanced against his fitness and the question of how he'd adapt to a different role, Nasri being cheaper, more versatile and younger always seemed like the safer option. Still hasn't shown he's any more suited to a centre mid role than Sneijder is and there's more questions about his mentality, so they're hardly making us feel like we're missing out. Everyone knows a decent midfielder would be handy but absolutely no-one jumps out as the obvious solution.

Still wanted Modric and / or Schweinsteigger more so.

I however think Fergie would have found a way for either Nasri or Sneijder to work though.

You dont think Modric is the obvious solution? Or is his getability what you're factoring in?

Do you think we're waiting for the right player (that we already know about) or desperately hoping that someone comes from nowhere as we can't identify someone?

If signing Modric was remotely feasible we'd have signed him up by now I reckon, given the way Sir Alex has waxed lyrical about him. It's just a ridiculous amount of money.

I'd imagine it's the former, I can't see us splashing out big money on a young player who's come out of nowhere in this instance. If we do buy someone to replace Scholes it'll be to replace him straight away not to be ready in a couple of years. So we're either hoping someone like Sahin/Ozil/whoever becomes available at a decent price or we're hoping one of the bigger names like Schweinsteiger decides he wants to move, if that doesn't happen then we're just going to stick with what we've got until another option does emerge and establish himself all the while hoping our younger players surprise us and make it much less of an issue. Seems unlikely we'll just settle for a player who'll do a job but ultimately won't be a part of the club's long-term success/future.

I'm not suggesting that either of them would have come in and been excellent, I'm just saying that you cannot extrapolate their performances for their respective clubs this season and say it would have been exactly the same at Man utd.

Sneijder has made 38, 41, 28, 38, 47 appearances in his past 5 seasons. Not an exemplary injury record but certainly playing his fair share of games.
