January midfield targets

Criteria number 1 has to not be cup tied for the CL.

Criteria number 2 has to be younger than 27

Criteria number 3 has to cost less than 25 million pounds.

IF we are going to buy in January I think it will be along these lines. a young midfielder with potential who we can ease into the team and doesn't have the added pressure of being a big name big money signing ala Sneijder or Modric.

So what players out there in the current market fulfill these criteria?

And let the muppetry begin.

I don't think there's anyone available to us that'd improve our midfield in January.

He has a point, we're not going to win the Champions League, number twenty should be priority.

I think you are allowed to re-register one player into your Champions League squad that has played in the competition for another team.

Cahill would pass 2 of those. Not saying I want him, there aren't that many different level Midfielders out there on the cheap,.

Martinez, M'Vila or Hazard, whether they meet all requirements or not

Really?
I remember Real Madrid and Chelsea? (not really sure) having some sort of issue like that. There is a high probability that I am wrong mind.

Didn't Lille come out and put a 40 million price tag on Hazard?

Problem is if we want to step into the transfer market chances are chelsea and Arsenal will probably be doing so as well and the former could push up prices which could make fergie decide to wait till the summer window.

Tiote is a good shout. Mike Ashley would sell if we give him a decent offer.

Is that why we tried to sign Nasri and Sneijder in the summer? Everyone realizes we need to strengthen in midfield, its about finding the right player for the right price and being smart about it. To challenge on all fronts this season it is my opinion however that relying on an injury prone Anderson and Carrick, or an inconsistent Carrick and Fletcher isn't going to cut it.

There's a need and a want. Plenty of our fans will tell you we needed to sign a midfielder, or even two. Clearly, SAF wanted one, but didn't feel we needed one, which is now starting to look like a bit of a naive or dare I say, stubborn decision. You're mental if you think there's only a few players in the world that could possibly improve our midfield. I couldnt tell you who to buy, but thats not my job and I dont watch leagues outside of the PL as much as the others on here, but thats why the club spends millions of pounds, every year on our scouting system to find the right man.

Its difficult to believe SAF genuinely thinks there's only "two or three players" that could improve our midfield of Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson, Gibson and Giggs.

But it's not naive to believe that he thought Cleverley was better than all the other options (aside from Nasri and Sneijder).

I mean, this is the guy that sold Hughes, Ince and Kanchelskis one summer and replaced them with kids.

Obviously everyone thought Ince and Kanchelskis were an improvement on Beckham and Scholes, but SAF believes in his youth.

Even I'm starting to doubt if we'll ever pick up a central midfielder now.

I doubt we will buy anyone but if we do I think we should buy Javi Martinez and/or Yann M'Vila. Midfield problems sorted for ten years.

I'd be happy enough if Morrison and Pogba would be introduced into the team and developed. They regularly outshine Gibson in the reserves so I don't really see the point in him playing.

Is Cleverley really better than all of those options though? We've only seen a few games from him. I think fans are putting overwhelming expectations on his shoulders. Although he does deserve a lot of credit for allowing us to play well at the start of the season, I don't he was the central cause.

Who said Cleverley was better than those?

My point was, who'd have thought Beckham & Scholes would be better than Ince and Kanchelskis?

You really missed the point if you thought I was claiming Cleverley was better than those or that I was putting overwhelming expectations on his shoulders.

I don't think we'll buy anybody. I think SAF will try to use our players to fill that position, even players who have not been known for playing as central midfielders.

I'm gonna stick my neck out and say we arent gonna sign anyone in January

Then, when the summer comes, we won't sign anyone because of Euro 2012 and players fees going through the roof. No value

Exciting times ahead

There will probably be a couple of randoms, of which one will turn out to be class in the summer. The other will be loaned to Galatasary.

Neither will be a centre mid.

Either of Banega, Javi Martinez or M'Villa and i'd be delighted. Banega more so than the other 2. Top player.

As quite a few have pointed out, criteria 1 shouldnt really be a concern.

Here we go again

Quote:
Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed he has no plans to add to his Manchester United squad during the January transfer window.

"It is easy to say you are going to buy players but it is not easy to buy them for Manchester United, especially in January," said Ferguson.

"I do not see anyone who could make us a better team. There are two or three players but they are not available, so there is no point even going there."
One day I'd really love to know who these "two three" players are who we always seem to want but never seem to get.
