Kewell agrees Galatasaray switch

Harry Kewell had an injury-troubled time at Liverpool
Harry Kewell has signed a three-year deal with Turkish side Galatasaray after he was not offered a new contract by Liverpool.

Galatasaray's website reports that a deal has been completed for the 29-year-old Australian international.

Kewell had five injury-troubled seasons at Liverpool after moving from Leeds.

The move to Galatasaray has ended any possibility of Kewell being one of Australia's three over-age players at the Beijing Olympics.

Italian club Roma and Portsmouth had also been linked with Kewell who, during his time with Leeds, was sent off against Galatasaray in the 2000 Uefa Cup semi-final.

Kewell scored a goal and helped set up another in Australia's 3-1 win over Qatar in June that guaranteed them a place in the second round of Asian qualifying for the 2010 World Cup.

Good club.

Good luck to him, hopefully he can have a few injury-free seasons.

Taking his last payday, the cunt.
Loads of Aussies love him, truth is, he plays like a fanny now and has resorted to trying to be some sort of hard case with laughable results similar to how McManaman used to attempt for City when he was with them, all I saw him do in the recent Aussie games has been to crowd the referee at every decision and kick off with the opposition, he's a sad little joke of cunt and if I was a Dirty Dipper, I'd be gutted because he had all the talent in the world at Leeds...

I've always detested the cunt even when he was a young lad starting off his Socceroos career. Viduka also. At Leeds, when both were getting called up to play matches for their country, they would both all of a sudden have an injury but funnily enough play the next club match. I don't care if Australia was playing shit teams, the other players played them so when it came time to play the decisive last match they would be the first to put their hands up and the players who covered their arses against the 'lesser' teams would miss out. Very selfish and cuntish behaviour.

Hate the cunt. But didn't he score an incredible goal for Leeds against the Arse, in his last season in white, that effectively gave us the title that year?

If I recall the title was in our hands, and beating Leeds was Arsenal's only chance to keep their title hopes alive.

Interesting choice of clubs and it shows how his talents have diminished.

I wonder if he remembers his previous visit to Galatasaray and what happened.

I think he scored 3 or 4 goals for Australia recently. He has found his touch and has still got a heavy shot on him. Timing need work, which will come with more games, still a quality player IF he stays injury free.

Leeds got the best out of him and I'll always have good memories of some of his performances and goals but even then he was a pain in the arse - moaning, whining, whinger then and it didn't improve at liverpool where El Tubby soon lost his patience with him and admitted he never knew what the next Kewell 'injury' would be.

Against China, Iraq and Qatar mate, hardly the elite of world football - he hasn't done anything since he went to Liverpool and really hadn't been consistent for Leeds in his last few years with them either....

I thought that Gala had a hard time paying their players recently. If so then it shows how thick Kewell is by thinking he might be able to cash in there.

Apparently so, Kewell said this on signing....

"There's a lot of talk about the Turkish league, it's coming up in the world."

The Leeds fans have gone bananas...

Remember the lads who were stabbed out there?

They see it as massively disrespectful, one guy was in tears on talksport last night - he did know the people involved though.

A genuine world class talent he was, hailing from Australia no less(a country not known for any real big interest in 'Soccer'), who was never able to reach the heights because of his bloody persistant injuries. It's not his fault, just damn unlucky.

So you know every Leeds fan out there do you? Or are using sweeping generalisations?

Kewell's tried to make his peace....

Quote:
Harry Kewell has defended his transfer to Turkish side Galatasaray despite receiving fierce criticism from some Leeds fans for the move.

Kewell was playing for the Elland Road club when two supporters were killed before a UEFA Cup semi-final against Galatasaray in Istanbul in April 2000.

But in an open letter to Leeds fans he insisted he has not been disrespectful.

"My love and respect for Leeds United and what the club has done for me will never change," he said.

"My sense of sorrow and sympathy for the families and friends of Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight will always be with me.

"I chose the number 19 shirt when I signed for Galatasaray as a sign of respect for Leeds because that was the number I got when I first became a regular member of the Leeds starting XI.

"To blame the Galatasaray club for the tragedy in Istanbul is simply wrong and discriminatory."

"I felt that it might be a way to demonstrate that I had not forgotten where it all started and I was hoping that, in a small way, it would help the healing process of the tragedy."

Kewell, who joined Galatasaray on a free transfer from Liverpool earlier this month, added that Leeds fans are wrong to blame the Istanbul club for what happened.

"For me, sport should first and foremost be about the love of your game. But equally important is the respect for not only your team-mates but all those who you compete against.

"For this reason I have always objected to any form of discrimination in any sport and football in particular, as that is the sport that is the most near and dear to me.

"To blame the Galatasaray club for the tragedy in Istanbul is simply wrong and discriminatory."
