I think we should put in a bid for Donovan. He could provide good cover in any of the attacking positions (except maybe as an out and out striker), and could fit in well in a 4-3-3 on the left or right. If we could get him for relatively cheap, he could be a very effective squad player for us.

If the MLS and players' union can get a deal sorted out soon, the MLS season will resume on schedule and this weekend will be Donovan's last game for Everton. I'm glad that he has played well and proved that he can perform in a tough league. It's quite impressive for someone to come into the team in January and gel in by March, well done to him.

latest rumors are that Chelsea plan to bid on him.

he'd be runined there as he'd probably spend most of his time on the bench.

If Landy Cakes is lucky, Everton will try to buy him in the summer. He should avoid Chelsea like the plague imo.

He will go to Chelsea if he had the option. The lure of money, mates.

A successful loan move comes to a close, and now Dempsey's back. As I said, reason for optimism. No chance of Donovan going to Chelsea by the way. He found his level at Everton, he's not stupid enough to get himself in over his head again.

At least, I hope he isn't.

Had a horrible season at LA. he's burned out and needs a rest. Everton are desperate. Not the player he was at the WC.

12 goals in 23 games while playing as a midfielder most of the year isn't too bad. With the exception of 2008 when he scored 20 it matches the most goals he has had in a season in his career.

But how many were penalties? His numbers will always be exaggerated because of that. His all around play was terrible. He'd disappear for ages, only to pop up with a goal - that's unacceptable as a winger.

When you have Beckham in your team, against defenses such as in MLS, and as an attacker you have speed and a bit of skill - you better start putting in the goals.

Everton sign La Galaxy skipper Donovan - ESPN Soccernet

Quote:
Everton have agreed a deal to sign USA forward Landon Donovan on a short-term loan from MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy.

Donovan, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Goodison Park in 2010, will be eligible to play against Bolton Wanderers on January 4, pending the completion of routine paperwork.

The 29-year-old will leave Everton after the Merseyside derby against Liverpool at Anfield on February 25 to rejoin Galaxy ahead of the new MLS season. Everton manager David Moyes said: "I am delighted that we have managed to get Landon back. He will give us some good experience over January and February.

"He did well for us when he was over two years ago and hopefully will return with those same qualities.

"His season has just finished and like last time we need him to hit the ground running because the games come thick and fast at this time of year."

Donovan, who recently led Galaxy to MLS Cup victory, told Everton's official website: "The opportunity to return to Everton and play for such a well-respected club and a manager that I hold in such high regard was something that was simply too good to pass up.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Everton in 2010 and I'm hopeful that we can experience similar success this time around.

"I want to thank David Moyes and Bruce Arena, as well as executives from both clubs and Major League Soccer for allowing me this unique and special opportunity."

Donovan, who has also played in Europe with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich, became a hugely popular figure with Everton fans during his first stint with the club.

Congrats to him, can't see it lasting into the MLS season with the Beckham factor gone. Yet he was always promised to have the opportunity to play in Europe properly eventually, you have to wonder when that is going to be.

I like the move for him. His spell there before was decent. I hope he finds a way to make it a permanent deal. He doesn't have too many years left.

Good move for Everton. He looked half decent in his last spell there.

He convinced me of his class years ago. Everton will surely benefit from this loan again and it may help them climb the table quicker.

done fairly well so far I'd say. seems to be involved in a lot of Everton's goals, including today's one.

They really should sign him permanently. He's assisted nearly all their goals since he arrived.

Can't see the MLS ever agreeing to let him go abroad.

LA apparently want to sign Frank. To do so, they'd need to lose Donovan or Keane. Keane would be preferable, but Donovan could want to go to Everton. It would be big for US soccer to have two of its best players there, plus Deuce at Fulham.

MLS probably won't sell him, but it'd be great for Everton.

They wanted to last time but Moyes said they can't afford him.
