Leicester reported to have agreed a fee with United for Danny Drinkwater
Leicester City have agreed a fee with Manchester United to sign central midfielder Danny Drinkwater, BBC Radio Leicester understands.
Drinkwater, who has been on loan at Barnsley since the start of the season, is set to hold talks on Thursday. The 21-year-old impressed Foxes boss Nigel Pearson by creating both goals as the Tykes beat City 2-1 on Saturday. And with fears midfielder Andy King may out for several months with an Achilles injury, Pearson was keen to strengthen. The Leicester manager has so far been frustrated in his attempts to bring in new faces to bolster his side's faltering promotion challenge. The Foxes are 15th in the Championship table, seven points adrift of the play-off places. But although the club have funds available, bids for Doncaster Rovers striker Billy Sharp and Hull's Cameron Stuart have failed. Barnsley manager Keith Hill told BBC Radio Sheffield: "He's more than likely going to sign for Leicester. "We live in this football food chain that we can't compete with Leicester and they've nicked a player we've been developing. "I wish him all the best in the future because he deserves the opportunity and it will be a great financial package at Leicester. "I believe one day he will be a Premier League player. It's football, it's a shame, but we move on." BBC Sport - Leicester chase Manchester United's Danny Drinkwater |
