Unless they are going to play him on the left side of midfield I don't have a clue why they're buying him.

Good news if true. A central midfielder isn't what liverpool needs the most. Can't se why they aren't putting their money in towards a new winger/fullback seeing as that is what they really need.

He's not good enough for Arsenal, he's a good player but doesn't have the class on the ball. They might as well play Gilberto if they're going to play barry.

If that's true then

Do they think they can just change some of their shit for him?

This quote is from the BBC

O'Neill angrily denied Liverpool had offered to pay £10m for the player.

He told the club's website: "Liverpool haven't made a straight cash offer. They've made an offer involving a mish-mash of nameless player exchanges.

Seems like Liverpool don't want to offer any money just a package deal involving players they want to get rid of.

To be fair that could be referring to most of their squad. Including the worlds first defensive striker.

i agree.

Barry's a decent player, nothing more, nothing less.

technically, i think there are better players. i'm honestly surprised Liverpool are in for him. Alonso's off, i guess. even then, i reckon Alonso has the edge in consistency of passing, though Barry's more dynamic.

Very good player in a small pond....will struggle in a slightly larger aquarium like Liverpool. Barry's strength lies in his consistency. He plays practically every single minute of Villa's matches and hence chips in about 10 goals a season.

Once Barry's at Liverpool where Rafa's rotation policy reigns supreme unlike Martin O Neill's stable line-ups, his confidence will be knocked back (especially considering the pressures of living up to a ridiculous price tag of slightly above 10 million for an English player). As he keeps being played in and out of the side, his performance will slowly dip and at the end of the season, I expect Villa or other midtable clubs like Spurs, Everton, Newcastle to purchase him at a knockdown price.

Think of Barry as the next Bolo Zenden. Pretty decent at clubs like Boro; only to be made useless at Liverpool

Well if we paid £18.6 million for Carrick including the add ons and £17 million for Hargreaves (not sure if we have to pay extras but I've heard the price could rise to over £ 20 million) Vila should play hard ball and try to squeeze alot more out of Liverpool

we overpay constantly when we buy compared to most other sides. plus barry is older than what carrick was when we bought him.

barry won't move for anything over 15....and that's a stretch.

From what I've seen Diaby's quite good with the ball at his feet.

Can anyone recall the central midfiled pairing of Gerrard and Barry against Croatia? Awful.

This is Liverpool all over - they'll sell Alonso and replace him with a player no better or no worse - but still not top class.

Mascherano and Barry in midfield - fucking catastrope

Not sure about this one.

Gareth Barry seems to be the type of player you'd sign if you 'went on holiday' in championship manager whilst managing Liverpool with assistant manager Phil Thompson in charge of player purchases cos you forgot to untick the relevant box.

You then come back couple of hours later, and you've gone from 1st in the league to about 8th, and Gerrards been sold for 5m + Simao.

Umm yeah, happened to a friend of mine

Well as you say he's just a solid player. Not really good at anything more than being a good player so to say. Perhaps good for Liverpool to get a man who can slot in on many positions. Their new winger perhaps?

If Liverpool pull this off it'd be like us signing Essien.
