Man United take a look at Welsh wizard Aaron Ramsey

Is he the new Messiah Ramses III ?

*************

By Alan Nixon 13/05/2008

Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to beat Chelsea and Arsenal - by signing Welsh wizard Aaron Ramsey for £5million.

The Manchester United boss opened talks to land the 17-year-old from FA Cup finalists Cardiff City just 24 hours after clinching the Premier League title.

Ramsey's advisers are keen and the transfer is expected to be officially announced after Cardiff's Wembley date on Saturday. Midfield starlet Ramsey is viewed as the long-term replacement for Paul Scholes.

It will be a blow for Arsene Wenger, who wants the superkid to join his youthful ranks at Arsenal. And Chelsea have also been looking at Ramsey as a squad man and one for the future.

But Avram Grant has not moved as swiftly as his Champions League final opponents. United could offer Cardiff a player or two on loan next season as a sweetener.

He must be good if we are prepared to spend £5m, but midfielders aren't really a priority this summer.

Add to that it's the mirror it could well be bollocks.

Have not seen him play much. At least it gives me something to look out for in what should be a dire game this weekend. Portsmouth were lucky to get past us the cnuts.

I think he could be a great signing, based on the couple of times I've watched him.

If you can tell us more, it'll be great, as this isn't an overnight deal like the journalist has speculated.

Misleading title, it's another speculation. He was also linked with Arsenal and Chelsea.

I have seen him play a couple of times. Looks a very good talent. A real class above anyone in the Cardiff team. Exceptional short and long passer. Plays center mid and can play on the right. He can tackle too.

My mate is a Cardiff City fan who raves about him. He does play like Scholes.

I would say buy him now. If he has a good one on Saturday in the cup final, then his price may rocket.

Only seen him once - in the FA Cup against Boro, looked a marvellous talent, very much in the Scholes mould, in the sense that he always seemed to have time and space on the ball, when other, much more experienced players didnt, and always played the right pass at the right time, this, remember, is a 17 year old kid we're talking about, he's barely out of school! frightening talent - snap him up fergie!

These rumors first surfaced in January. The Cardiff director told some newspaper SAF had phoned him about Ramsey. He's a midfielder and we do not need midfielders, but he's a top, top talent and he's British. Rare combo and one SAF has a liking for.

Sounds like a top prospect. Fergie did say he'll be after 'young players' too.

Interesting... a little earlier this read "Ten things to know about Man United's new signing"... now it reads "new target".

Would like to hear something official from Cardiff... doubt you'll hear anything from United on this.

He’s fluent in both English and Welsh, and his all-time Welsh hero is Ryan Giggs, so he’ll be in good company at Old Trafford

Does anyone know if Giggsy speaks Welsh?

Reporters being too sensational and later held back and edited by their bosses doesn't strike me as interesting. It's pretty common.
