Manchester City defender Richards back on United list

DAILY MAIL:

Manchester United are set to step up their bid to sign Micah Richards from neighbours City, with the England defender's future at Eastlands looking increasingly uncertain.

Sir Alex Ferguson thought his immediate chances of landing Richards had been scuppered when the 19-year-old agreed a new five-year deal worth in the region of £2.3million-a-year.

But doubts over Sven Goran Eriksson's future and a belief that City may want to cash in on their £20m-rated asset to fund new signings have left Richards considering his options.

I'd like to get Richards. With the turmoil at Man City at the moment it could be a possibility. As long as they don't ask for silly money, which they will do most likely.

After the way they capitulated at Boro today, and with Sven being booted out so that Shinawatra can score points with the Thai public, I won't be surprised if there are a lot of players wanting out. Dunne and Richards especially. Elano and Petrov would also be attractive targets for a lot of teams.

Would prefer Lahm, Richards is a better CB. But he is young and English which is much much better.

Doubt City would sell to us or he would want to join us. And I'd prefer a proper RB anyways

Would be a great buy, for now and the future.

He was one of the best players i have seen play against us at Old Trafford this year - his performance in the derby was immense.

We'll get neither.

We'll sign a kid (who isnt anywhere near as high profile as Richards) to take over from Neville in a year or two, or we'll sign nobody.

At CB... Yes he was amazing... But I quite like Ferdinand and Vidic, they are quite good...

Besides, I watched the match the next week and he made 2 awful mistakes leading to goals.

I cant see why he wouldn't. Football is about success and given uniteds latest triumph and the Soap Opera that is Man city (which wil only continue as long as Thaksin remains teh woner) why not?

moving from City to United isn't as unlikley as moving from one of the top four and it would make snese for him not having to move very far.

Why would Fwergie sign somone to take over from a player iin a year or two when said player hardly kicked a ball all season?

Its clear there's more than meets the eye to Neville's injury - he's been supposedly fit for weeks but wasn't even picked when Vidic was out and Brown had to move into the centre.

Even if he does come back he cant be relied on so its clear a good right back is a priority.

You're clearly thick. Why would Fergie throw Neville in at the deep-end when he has not even played a game for almost a year?

Because Brown has earnt himself a new contract playing in that position all season, Hargreaves has had great performances in that position against Barcelona and SAF has said that Neville will be first choice next season.

We arent signing Lahm this year - as much as I'd love it. And Richards is a CB.

They havent even kicked a ball in the reserves yet. Fabio has big potential , but thats like saying we dont need a striker because we have Welbeck.

There was no way Fergie would throw a player who hasn't played for a year into the thick of the action unless he had to.

Dont forget Wes BrownI think that we should bring in a right back. Stating that our first priority should be in bringing in a new striker.

Agree there, devilish. A striker is the number one target. We can't struggle another season (not bad for a struggling team, mind you) with two strikers and leftovers of Saha. Like I said on another thread, if Gary has a good pre season, then we can actually go on another year with what we've got at the back. We can play Gary, Wes, even Hargo if needed at right back. Though if we can bring a younger specialist right back it would obviously be better.

Can't see City selling Richards to us, anyway.

After what we spent last year,Believe me we won't be spending anything close this year.

The financial situation doesn't allow us really unless the Galzers give money from their own pocket.
