Bump!!

Apparently, BCFC told the manager that they shouldn't play him in their FA Cup replay last night as it would be better if he wasn't cup-tied!

Sounds like he might be on the move

Can't see where, Chelsea have Curtois who IMO looks better, what about Shitty? Can't see him replacing JH?

Valdes to Liverpool, De Gea to Barca, Butland to Man united is the skuttlebutt.

Everton wanted Butland last summer. Could be them again.

Makes sense. Valdes going from probably the best team ever ... to a team struggling to get into the Europa League. Who is reporting that kind of stuff?

Read some nonsense story yesterday that Krul could be off to AC Milan and Butland could be going to Newcastle.

How many of you would be thrilled if in Summer we only sign Butland and one of the two Benders?

Blues hit the Jack pot.

How good is Jack Butland really? I've seen him a few times and his shot stopping does seem better than the average bear's. Still I seem to remember him dropping the ball for England (?) and he looked like he could be gaffe prone under pressure. Given his age I'm guessing he'll iron those kinks out of his game but is he really on the trajectory the press claim? Be curious to hear from people who've seen Brum play a lot this year.

This. Plus I heard the club accepted £3 million as a transfer for him, but the player himself spurned the move because of a lack of first team opportunities .. can't remember where I saw it

£3m is peanuts for a talented, hyped up, young English player.

Very sensible move. He should go to a PL club where he'll be a starter. Though looking through the clubs that's probably only likely at Southampton, Reading and possibly West Ham and Norwich. The rest are pretty stable on that position.

I was impressed with him when I saw him. If I was him I'd stay at Birmingham for a couple more years until he properly establishes himself, going to Chelsea would be career suicide right now.

He would do well to go to Southampton, and they need a goalie.

Chelsea: Cech, Coutois, Delac... Turnbull. He would be the new Turnbull basically.

I can't see Courtois going back as back-up to Cech, I'd expect someone to stump up a chunk of cash - so they obviously want another young prospect

I think Butland will go to Liverpool if/when Reina leaves

Yep, he'd be a good buy for Everton. And it'd be nice to see him go somewhere with prospects of being first choice, rather than another Chelsea benchwarmer.

We can afford it probably but it will be down to if Moyes wants to strengthen that position. Howard can probably still go on for a couple of years yet but Butland could be our Number 1 for around 10 years. Home grown too.

I think Barca will have a say in the Curtois department which may make room for Butland to challenge JH for number one?

Not sure how to feel about that. Usually his commitment would be commendable on some level but his club is in a financial disasterzone at the moment and those could be crucial funds to its survival...

I don't understand it. What does Barcelona have to do with Curtois and how does it translate to Butland v Hart competition?

That's the thing though, I guess. You can afford him, but it would be at the expense of spending that £3million elsewhere. At the moment you still have Howard, who is a very good 'keeper and will be with you for at least another two seasons (possibly more), whereas other positions need strengthening much more urgently. Why replace one of your most stable positions and leave a more unstable one undealt with? Cross the Howard bridge when you come to it, I say.

Edit: Of course, he claims he wants to stay on loan at Birmingham for at least the remainder of this season. Could Everton work a deal out where they buy him, but he stays on loan there until the end of the 2013/2014 season? That he'll get his first team experience to develop, and Everton keep Howard in between the sticks, but just when Howard is looking to step down Butland will be ready to come in.

There have been reportedly bigger offers from other clubs in the past, and Birmingham have rejected them.

Yep, and though the club would love the cash, they'd also want what is best for him as well.

Hopefully Chelsea sniffing around means that there's a chance Courtois isn't going to be staying there much longer as it doesn't make any sense otherwise.

I think he means that Barcelona might want Courtois to replace Valdes, and him going there would then give Chelsea room to have Butland who will then might have a greater chance of competing with Hart for the England #1 shirt.

Chelsea already have a replacement for Cech in Courtois. No way will they be selling him to Barca.
