Manchester United transfer news Fergie interest in £20m-rated Borussia Dortmund teenage playmaker Mario Gotze has intensified - News - MirrorFootball.co.uk

Quote:
Alex Ferguson's interest in bringing Borussia Dortmund teenager Mario Gotze to Manchester United has intensified.

The 18-year-old has cemented his place in the German side’s first team this season and his four Bundesliga goals have helped them to the top of the table.

United boss Fergie has had scouts watch the attacking midfielder in action, according to German newspaper Das Bild , but have yet to make an official bid.

In light of the academy graduate Gotze’s impressive form, Dortmund have raised his fee from £12m to a staggering £20m.

With Paul Scholes nearing the end of his career, Gotze could be an ideal replacement.

Italian giants Juventus and Inter Milan have also been linked with the playmaker, but neither are believed to have followed up their interest with a bid.

20m sounds like a little bit too much, doesn't it?

United ramp up bid for £10m Borussia Dortmund youngster Mario Gotze
By Sportsmail Reporter Last updated at 10:30 PM on 15th February 2011

Manchester United have intensified their interest in Borussia Dortmund teenager Mario Gotze.

The 18-year-old has cemented his place in Dortmund's first team this season with former midfielder Matthias Sammer hailing him as one of the best talents to come out of Germany.

Gotze, an attacking midfielder who has also picked up two full caps with Germany, is valued at around £10million and Dortmund will sell. United have watched him extensively and will mull over a summer offer.

Meanwhile, the club have confirmed that Ji Sung Park will be out for four weeks with a hamstring injury picked up in training last Friday, as revealed in Sportsmail.

“He is only 18 years old and lives with his parents a few miles from the stadium. His departure is almost impossible.”

From his agent, he's going nowhere.

Gawd, the press really would publish anything.

We should invent a caf transfer rumour and try to get it picked up by the national press. Someone could set up a thread purporting inside information. A few people could reply saying they'd heard things along those lines from their contacts. Everyone else could get spastically excited and generally say how much they'd love it to be true and how it's mad no-one has picked it up yet with all this great inside info. A mod could track the thread and remove the doubting Thomas' posts.

Us Twitter lads could tweet false quotes from agents or other ITK's or that so-and-so has suspended betting and get the rumour trending.

If we could get anyone to run with it, it would be a hilarious way of showing up their spasticity in publishing transfer rumours.

Everton are in dire straights financially. We could most likely get Rodwell on the cheap for a similar fee.

Götze is more attacking than Rodwell from what I gather so the two aren't really comparable.

Yeah but Rodwell is more of a defensive mid while this lad is more of a playmaker, an attacking playmaker I should say. Rodwell is more versatile though because he can play in central defense also.

Goetze is a Scholes of old type, Sahin a Pirlo. It's too early to say who is superior. It can be said that Goetze is super mature for his age though. Thomas Muller style.

Are they both adept at defensive duties?

That's high praise. Thomas Muller is amazingly mature for his age from what I've seen. Like an old pro in a young body.

You always ask this kind of question in transfer threads. You asked for a comparison between Hazard and Sanchez, Hamsik and Defour and now Sahin and Goetze. I m not saying there is anything wrong. Just merely pointing to the facts!
