Götze has more flair than Welbeck.

Zorc sporting director.

Quote:
Manchester United and Arsenal target Mario Gotze will stay with Borussia Dortmund for at least one more season, according to sporting director Michael Zorc.

Gotze is regarded as one of the finest young prospects ever produced in German football and, thus, has frequently been linked with a move away from Dortmund.

Old Trafford and the Emirates Stadium have been touted as potential destinations for the 19-year-old, as Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger look to reinforce their midfield ranks.

But, joked Zorc, Gotze will not be joining United and Arsenal - or anyone else for that matter - unless an offer in the region of €1 billion is made.

"We have agreed with Mario that he plays next season in Dortmund," Zorc told BILD.

"He has the contract to 2014 - we have no reason to sell him. But I am not a prophet. If tomorrow someone offers one billion euros, then you should think about it."

I can see them doing that gentleman's agreement type thing with him where they ask him to play one more season, before he can then leave.

No one is going to pay £35-40m this summer and then let him go back to them for one whole season. If they pay that much for him, then he will move immediately.

Man United Plan £49m Bundesliga Pair Bid as Sir Alex Ferguson Looks to Freshen Up Old Trafford SquadMan United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will seek funding to make sign two long term targets as he looks to freshen up his Old Trafford squad. The Scot will look to his board to finance big money moves to sign Borussia Dortmund pair Mario Gotze and Neven Subotic, two players who are attracting a great deal of attention from prospective suitors after helping their side to a Bundesliga triumph last term as well as mounting a campaign to retain the title this term.

Ferguson is keen to see his side challenge for the signatures of high profile additions as he looks to convince his current top performers that Man United have the ambition, and finances, to beat others in the European elite for big name signings.

Having seen his side struggle defensively this term, effectively resulting in an embarrassing Champions League group stage exit, Sir Alex Ferguson wants to bring in a top centre back and top of his wish-list in this department is Serbian international Subotic. The need to bring in such a player has been hastened by the long term injury suffered by Nemanja Vidic and the less than glorious form shown by veteran Rio Ferdinand.

Whilst ideally the Man United manager would like to lure the 23 year old Dortmund defender in the January transfer window a move in the summer is more likely as Westfalenstadion boss Jurgen Klopp will fight tooth and nail to keep the nucleus of his side together as they look to beat rivals Bayern Munich and Schalke, as well as surprise package Borussia Monchengladbach, to clinch back to back Bundesliga titles.

Ferguson has also joined the pursuit of German international youngster Mario Gotze, probably considered Dortmund’s prized asset, and the Old Trafford boss may feel that the chances of luring the youngster away from the club he has represented since the age of nine are increased due to the signing of talented playmaker Marco Reus, who has agreed a deal to sign for the club in the summer.

The £14.5m signing of Reus has led many to believe that Klopp is resigned to losing Gotze and is therefore lined up his replacement.

Ferguson is keen to see his side make a statement of intent and will look to the Glazers to fund a bid in the region of €60m (£49m) for the Borussia Dortmund pair.
Mario Gotze this morning
Quote:
Mario Gotze: I could sign a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund
Germany international, repeatedly linked with moves, has stressed he is very happy with life at his current club, and has hinted at signing a new deal with the Bundesliga champions
Borussia Dortmund star Mario Gotze says he "feels very well" at the German champions, and added he could sign a contract extension with the club.

The 19-year-old is continually being linked with a move abroad as clubs such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea and Inter are all believed to be keeping tabs on the attacking midfielder.Nevertheless, Gotze seems happy to remain at his current club in the foreseeable future.

"Of course I can imagine signing another contract extension with Borussia Dortmund. I have always said that I'm feeling very well here and that hasn't changed," Gotze was quoted as saying by Bild.

The Germany international's attitude towards prolonging his stay at Dortmund is believed to be in part due to the recent €17.5 million (£14.4m) signing of Marco Reus from Borussia Monchengladbach, a move that Gotze hailed.

"This is a super sign, that we can get such an outstanding player," he said.

Gotze is a product of the Borussia Dortmund youth academy and has developed into a key player at BVB since making his official debut in November 2009.

The Germany international's current contract with Dortmund runs until the summer of 2014.

Why didn't we make the offer in this window. If it's expected to be a bit difficult to sign a player then we don't seem to want to try.

We probably did try, perhaps not for Gotze but maybe for other players. We didn't get where we are today by sitting on our backsides and not looking to improve. In fact, I wouldn't even be surprised in the slightest if we've lined up a deal or two for the summer.

I'd sign the lad in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately he is Madrid/City/Chelsea bound I would fear.

They'll offer the big money and the stupid wages.

Another club who can throw money around if they so choose.

We go in and offer 25 million for the lad, they say no. We offer 30 odd they say no. We offer 32....city come in and say here's 40 and we'll give you 200 grand a week. Madrid offer similar, as to Chelsea say.

We can't match that.

As a matter of fact City could still argue a positive wage trend if they flog the likes of Bridge, Adebayor, Santa Cruz, Weiss, Boyata, Tevez, Onouha & Savic (probably around £750k a week), whilst at the same time signing a couple or three players on 200k a week.

If Chelsea miss out on the Champions League this year I fully expect them to invest 9 figures in the Summer. Everyone can see by the City sponsorship deal that (still) doesn't seem to have been struck off that there are relatively simple ways to bend the rules.

I'm not sure thats a big offer, wasn't Anderson considered to be one of worlds top young talents at the same age? this Gotze could easily go the same way (good but not as good as people making out). I'm not saying we shouldn't go for him as I personally haven't seen enough of him to say we should throw Anderson on top of a £25m bid. But then I only watch the occasional Bundesliga match.

I think City's strategy has become rather obvious; since the Arab takeover they've adopted a mass investment approach in order to build a team that'll get them to the top in as short amount of time as possible, before the FFP regulation come into play to stop their spending. They seem to have had a 'buy now, worry about the consequences later' mindset, designed to thrust them to the top of the footballing world amongst the other big teams in the nick of time before the big FFP clampdown; how they stay there, If they can stay there, has always been second priority for them - getting there was the ultimate goal, for if they couldn't get there before the FFP regulations were introduced then whether or not they could have stayed there would be a purely academic point.

Hence the massive investments of the last few years; they did what was needed, threw caution to the wind and got themselves to a competitive level.

Now they're having to pay the price of their goldrush tactics, they cannot avoid the FFP regulations anymore, they've reached the top and have met with the ever impending regulatory resistance from FIFA; they cannot go any further.

As is well known, City must now slash their wage bills before they can buy, and they have to slash them considerably, and when they do buy they have to be far more shrewd than they have been thus far. Whether they can slash those bills at will is the big question; you say that all they need do is sell Bridge, Adebayor, Santa Cruz, Weiss, Boyata, Tevez, Onouha & Savic, well that's easier said than done when those players are on contract and earning City's silly money; who's gonna make the move worth their while, from a players' perspective I mean, they're hardly a world beating bunch of superstars.

Even if City manage to offload their collection of overpaid, overpriced deadwood, will it be enough? The figures suggest not. Even without buying in replacements for the above job-lot, City will be struggling to meet the conditions of the new regulations; suggestions of City ignoring the regulations or getting around them through in-house sponsorship deals are wide of the mark, the regulations are supported with suitable legislature as to render such tactics almost entirely futile; they may be able to squeeze a few £million past the prying eyes of the independent commission employed to ensure that no income is being declared from dubious sources above market value, but it won't be enough to make any discernable difference to their massive losses if they continue in the same vein as they have been these last few seasons.

City's spending has reached its apex and will now be forcibly curtailed, or else they will not be eligible for European competition, in which case they'd not really be considered a proper football team at all, they'd be nothing more than a bunch of overpaid mercenary clowns who're not allowed to play with the real teams. Such is the way of things.

I agree money plays a part but I think you also have to look at where you have more chances of winning trophies. Its not that we can't match Chelsea by paying £150,000 a week but I think we choose not to. I know we also have a limit as to how much we can pay but as Fergie said before the Glazers are willing to give if he needs it. But if we and Madrid compete, we know who he is going to pick but if he chooses England, then it will be tight battle as to who will get him.

I agree however we have two excellent ball playing CB in Smalling and Jones (if you think his best position is indeed CB), we need that rock who heads any incoming cross away ala Vidic.

1) How are they paying this price? I have yet to see any evidence of this. I have likewise yet to see any evidence of them starting to consider avoiding the FFP, with Mancini saying he needs a couple more midfielders to win the League.

2) Why is this well known, because of the regulations that do not even slightly concern them? I'd personally say that all evidence points to them not caring about slashing their wage bill, they'd have paid up Bridge's etc contract if that were the case.

3) I didn't say they needed to sell any of these players at all, they could merely pay up all there contracts and their wage bill would be slashed. Sure their capital expenditure would be high for one season, but again this would not only help trying to illustrate a "positive trend", but also be seen as exceptional expenditure.

4) As I have stated, they do not care if this is "enough", shown by paying Nasri £160+k for warming the bench and Hargreaves probably a fair whack for no other reason than to show they can. If the Regs have any bite whatsoever (in 10-12 years once all the marshmellowy "positive trend" etc BS is over), their policy of achieving overpriced sponsorship deals from Arab companies will see them over the line.

5) Around 75% of their c. £60m commercial revenue comes from Abu Dhabi companies. This isn't "sqeezing a few £m", this is the vast majority. If it carries on increasing year on year at a rate anywhere near what it has been I'm sure they will comfortably be at £100m+ revenue from commercial operations within a year of 12/13. Either Uefa's learned lawyers are just taking an exceptional amount of time to write off the majority of income from the Etihad deal, or they have given the green light for City to continue. I think c. £7m annually from Abu Dhabi tourism is a brilliant deal for both parties!

6) Again all evidence suggests that City do not believe in the foreseeable future that anyone is going to ban them from the Champions League. I believe they feel quite comfortable that the regulations aren't going to seriously effect anyone for some years (after all regulatory periods) and by the time they do (if they do) they will have comfortably sorted their Abu Dhabi based income to cover it.

Borussia Dortmund's Mario Gotze targets starting spot for Germany in Euro 2012 - Goal.com

Quote:
The 19-year-old admitted that displacing the likes of Lukas Podolski and Thomas Muller will be a challenge and hinted that he could extend his stay at Signal Iduna Park.

Borussia Dortmund star Mario Gotze is targeting a starting role in Germany's Euro 2012 campaign.

The 19-year-old has emerged as a key player for the Bundesliga champions over the past 18 months and is looking to transfer his domestic form to the national side.

However, his path to the first team is blocked by the likes of Lukas Podolski and Thomas Muller and Gotze admits that displacing such established stars will be a challenge.

"A footballer wants to play. And in such a great tournament, everyone is up for it," Gotze told Kicker.

Gotze has been mostly utilised in a playmaking role for Joachim Low's side and believes that he would be able to function in tandem with Mesut Ozil, citing Barcelona's use of multiple creative midfielders as an example.

"Why not? Barcelona have a few creative players and they go from success to success."

Meanwhile, Gotze also stated that his chances of staying at his current club are not contingent on Champions League football.

"The Champions League is a great competition. We will hopefully play a better role in it next season. But my further cooperation with BVB doesn't depend on it.

"Anyone who plays for a club like Dortmund can only imagine extending their stay there. But this isn't a current issue. I wouldn't rule it out, but I won't guarantee it."
Hey Jaap when is he back for Dortmund? Is it late Jan?

The only transfers I made in the first two seasons so far is getting M'Vila and Götze on the first day of the season I started the game. I still haven't made any big transfers. I have only being buying for my youth squad.

I got afellay for 6mil as he was transfer listed at the end of the first season and got rossi in jan because both berba and welbeck got long term injuries which left me with just 2 strikers. Other than that, didnt make any signings till i got martinez and gotze to replace the ageing players.

anways, going really off topic here.

@ RDCR07

Götze is back from injury. He played in the Winter's Cup for Dortmund on Sunday, where they lost to Düsseldorf on penalties (he missed his) but beat Bremen 1-0 in the match for 3rd place.

Apart from that, there is daily speculation about him, one day it's about him extending his contract, the other day he is quoted that he could leave once it runs out.. Annoying really.

Got him on FIFA as well. 88 at the age of 19. Too good to be true.
