Arsenal in for Veloso (and so are we probably):

Quote:
Miguel Veloso's agent claims an English side has come close to matching the Sporting starlet's release clause.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder is a rising talent in Portugal and both Manchester United and Arsenal have been credited with an interest.

Although Veloso has a £20million release clause in his contract, his agent Paulo Barbosa says a club from England has bid near that mark.

Should the youngster's clause be met he could be the latest in a long line of talents to leave the country, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Anderson, who have all joined The Red Devils.

"There have been several contacts and several offers from England," Barbosa told the News of the World.

"I won't name the clubs but one of them was not far from his buy-out clause.

"If there's agreement from Sporting and the player, it's possible for him to leave.

"But there's no pressure or desire that it should happen yet."

Another source (same one which first claimed our Anderson/Nani deals last year) says Veloso could join Arsenal:

Quote:
Arsenal segue Miguel Veloso
FILIPE ALEXANDRE DIAS/RUI MIGUEL GOMES

We don´t really need Veloso. We have Hargreaves, Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson and Scholes all for cm.

Possebom is coming through.

I´d only take him if he is better than Carrick. From what I´ve seen, he aint.

I think we should concentrate on a striker and a rb. Any extra should be used on scooping up young promising talent.

He only turned 22 last weekend and looks like an exceptional talent. I'd take him in a heartbeat, Scholes will retire within the next three seasons, Fletcher might want to move on and we all know that Fergie got it absolutely right this season with five midfielders around. Squad depth wins you titles, so I wouldn't mind having another central midfielder at the team. Problem is the fee, I doubt we would pay anything close to £20m. More like £10m now and another £7m or so depending on appearances and success.

I dont care if Veloso goes to Arsenal or Jupiter. We dont need him and we wont be signing players to avoid them joining our rivals, thats stupid.

Can't imagine the club spending 15-20m on a guy to play 5th choice midfield.

You want Fletcher to move dont you? So you can wank on Veloso. If you pay the 20 m there is no problem mate. 5 midfielders already on the team and Veloso is not different to what we have which means he wont be dropping any of the ones we currently have to the bench.

From what i have seen of him he is good but he is the same position as Carrick and we have many players on that position. We also have Possebon who is pretty good and will get promoted to the first team in a couples of seasons.

Exactly. We need to spend what we have in getting a marvellous striker as that is the only thing we are missing right now. We need to get some pressure off Tevez and Rooney, they need another player to help them in a long season.

United didn't even stated, which striker they will try to sign, yet... Veloso can wait.

He would be more happy in United with Cristiano, Nani and Anderson than in Arsenal, but if he want to go there... not a big problem for us.

With quality British midfielders like Scholes, Carrick, Hargreaves and Fletcher, we're very good prepared for Premiership next season, imo.

Not really. They'd be getting a young Emanuel Petit to partner Fabregas. Talk of a serious upgrade.

So according to you Veloso is neither young nor promising or what?

We don't know that for sure, Chief.

We don't even know if Veloso wants to sign them. I think he would be more happy to play in one team with his old mates from Sporting and he propably knows that, too.

I'd take him regardless. We have already showed we can use 5 midfielders. He would replace Scholes in our squad nicely once Scholes retires. .

How can you compare Petit a world cup winner to Veloso. They are not even similar in style either from what i have seen.

No fucking way I want to see Fletch move on. I'd love to see him getting more time on the pitch, he has improved tremendously this season. Big game player.
I never said we should pay a ridiculous amount of money for Veloso and I never said Fletcher should go so, to use your phrase, I'll be able "to wank on Veloso" - I just said that it's possible Fletcher might want to leave, mainly because he turned 24 lately and may want first team action. Jesus, the caf is a weird place sometimes

The bolded part sums it all up. I'm not you. That's why and how I can compare them that way.

That does not sum it up at all. You are not a scout, i guarantee i have seen as much of him as you have and he is nothing lke Petit IMO.

Hence it sums it up perfectly. I'm not you. So I'm failing to see why you seem to think it's a crime for me to see what you don't. Being a scout has zilch to do with that. I simply see what you don't because we are not the same people. It's you who questioned how I could make the comparison remember?

The word on the grapevine seems to be that the two English clubs are Arsenal and Chelsea, not ourselves.

Chelsea have a clear lack of midfielders so that's probably true.

The same as us. We are in a desperate need of midfielders.

Yes i did and the reason for my questioning was not based on their abilities and playing style as you are correct in saying this is open to interpretation.

However, i think saying he is a young Emmanuel Petit and an upgrade over Flamini has no foundation in terms of performance. Petit is a proven world class player with tons of medals while Flamini is an accomplished premiership player. Veloso is neither, he has talent yes but he needs to prove it outside of the portuguese league or champions league performances against Vieira etc.

Are you comparing him with Petit because they both have lovely pony tails or because of style of play?
