Another sporting player?

I'm suprised it's Veloso though, was thinking Moutinho would be our next target

But anyway, if this is true, it should be a good buy. We could actually look somewhere other than Portugal though.

Veloso: Sensational to play for Man Utd

Miguel Veloso wants to be the next Sporting Lisbon star to join Manchester United.

United and Arsenal are among European giants chasing the young Portugal international, who could leave Sporting in January.

"To join United is a dream for any player," Veloso told the News of the World.

"I'm happy in Portugal, but if a chance to join such a big club like them came along I would jump at it.

"Nani speaks sensationally about United and it would be sensational for me to play there with him and Cristiano."

Sign him up, Scholes and Carrick need someone to challenge their place, both have been awful.

We don't need Moutinho, and he isn't as good as people make out in my view anyway.

Anderson?

Even Fletcher is worth a shout.

Spot on. He looked impressive against us in the CL and for Portugal in the Under 21's. Seems to have the ability to marshall the midfield.

It's better to buy players as young as possible to give them chance to adapt. It makes financial sense as well - buy them now and risk a few million or watch them blossom and pay a fortune in a few years.

Agree, but even that has to stop at some point. We've just bought for the future, now we have to sit back and watch that future grow, instead of constantly adding to them.

If Veloso is a midfielder then we really dont need him. Our midfield is already well stocked.

He's as comfortable in central defence as he is in centre midfield.

Whats the point in bringing in a central defender when we already have VIDIC, Rio, VIDIC, Wes, VIDIC, Pique, VIDIC, Evans, VIDIC, Mikey.... and have I said VIDIC?

Just had a thought...if we are looking to bring in Veloso for 6M, what's the odds Pique is on his way out for more? That wouldn't be a bad bit of business IMO, it would stop someone like Arse getting him.

There is no way sporting will let go veloso for less than his buyout clause and that is 15mp...its funny to read when the 6mp or 8mp values keeps popping up....sporting never sells player on the cheap...

There was talk we would buy nani for 8 mp but for how much did we bought nani, double that amount, same thing happened with ronaldo,so guys dont think sporting will sell one of their best players for just 8 mp.....

We didn't have either Evans or Pique last year.

We lost 5 of 8 defenders last season, freakish really, no need for another centerback. If we are to buy defenders its fullbacks we need.

i'm not too sure.

we have Hargreaves, Scholesy, Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson, Gibson and, at a pinch, maybe Pique and O'Shea (who really has no business playing in CM).

of these, only Hargreaves and Carrick may give us genuine defensive ability in CM. Pique perhaps, but i'd rather he played in his natural position.

we may have many options in CM, but they are not balanced.

Two defensive in Hargreaves and Carrick, two attacking in Scholes and Anderson, Fletch is an all rounder, Gibson a talent, we've enough in central midfield.

Veloso free kick. Actually very good. And he scored on free kick against Israel too.

He was good against United. United quality? I don't know. I don't think Fergie will buy him.
Even if he did come to us..
do u think he'll take freekicks.. when Ronaldo is still around..

i'm sorry, but Carrick isn't a proper defensive midfielder; he is more like a deep-lying playmaker ala Pirlo, and even Milan recognise that they need Gattusso and Emerson or even Ambrosini.

Gibson is unproven at this level. i still remember we thought Jones was the bollocks and then....

He quite obviously is a DM, thats what he did last season and he was fantastic, being able to pass doesn't mean he can't defend

Agreed.

There is no place for Veloso currently.

You can (and must) have quality cover for your first team but no one, not even Chelsea can cater for an injury crisis of that proportion. We dont need Veloso. We currently have Gaz - Vidic - Rio - Evra as first team, 4 Internationals as covers (Wes, Mickey, Evans and OShea) and another 4 promising talent (Bardsley, Pique, carthcart - simpson) as third line
