Newcastle have signed...

....Argentina winger Jonas Gutierrez from Real Mallorca on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Anyone know anything about him?

Yeah, he's very good. Tricky winger, Pompey were heavily interested last year. I guess this means Milner will move on as was speculated, although Duff isn't likely to feature too much either.

He's an argie international left winger and Tim Vickery rates him, which means he'll probably do very well.

e.g.

Very interesting that this transfer is being done by means of the Webster Ruling so the player basically walked out from Mallorca and they can do fuck all about it, they're trying to sue him but they'll end up with much less than he was worth.

This is going to happen more and more frequently imo and can only be bad for the game.

If Ronaldo or someone like that ended up leaving United this way I reckon this forum would melt down.

Good player, started for Argentina against Brazil recently. The question is where he will end up after he fails at Newcastle?

I think the transfer system's fucked in a few years players will move for nominal amounts.

I recently saw him against Brazil, where he was the best player on the pitch in the first half, he looked extremely quick - he kept kicking the ball past the defenders and then catching it again by using his speed.

All very interesting and it seems Newcastle have got a good player. I'd be sad to see Milner leave...Duff on the other hand can go.

There's a bit of a Toon link with RCD Mallorca...Freddie Shepherd now lives mostly in Majorca and is trying to buy the club.

Hope not, always had a soft spot for RCD after spending many months on that island.

Good. Newcastle need better players. Their fans deserve some success for supporting them all this time.

I bought him once or twice on fm but he had a bad attitude and disrupted the team. He should fit in well at Newcastle!
