If its Barca that want him and are prepared to give him first team opportunities, he'd probably go and I don' grudge him that. Much as i'd like him to stay, we have probably the most difficult centre-half partnership to break into in the world right now. Its almost perfect and barring some catastrophe, I can't see any changes for 3 to 4 years.
There's no way he's better than Rio but if Pique genuinely thinks he's better than Vidic and is confident that given a chance, he'll make the position his, he should hang around for another year to give it a go. Else he should move on and look for first team football. |

Barca hold key to Evans future
Last Updated: Thu, 15 May 2008 10:57 sunderland Sunderland's hopes of signing Jonny Evans have been dealt a blow with the news Manchester United could sell Gerard Pique instead. Centre-half Pique has seen more game-time at Old Trafford this season than ever before after spending last term on loan in Spain with Real Zaragoza where he linked up with Gabi Milito. Milito made the switch to Barcelona last summer but recently picked up a serious knee injury so Barca need a replacement to step straight into the side and £4m-rated Pique is the name in the frame. If Sir Alex Ferguson decides to allow Pique to move on then he looks highly unlikely to allow Evans to join former loan club Sunderland on a permanent deal. Evans has admitted he would like to sign for Sunderland but it looks as though the decision will be taken out of his hands. http://www.eatsleepsport.com/articles/733074.html |

It really baffles me that theres so much interest in Pique especially from the likes of Barca, I mean he can't get a game with us and at the same time when he does he has made the odd mistake here and there yet the likes of Barca still want him? Sounds speciously like agent talk to me.
Not saying Pique wont want to leave in the summer in search of first team football but if he does go I think it's more realistic he'll be going to somewhere like Zaragoza again rather than one of Europe's elite. Also a little concerning the lack of ambition shown by Evans, almost every interview you read from him he makes it clear he'd rather stay full time at Sunderland than spend a season trying to force his way into things here ![]() |

With the premier league moving to 7 subs, I see more youth getting a chance. When we are up a couple goals in a game, Pique will be able to get more time now that it will be easier for him to make the bench. When Fergie said he will see more time, I think it is because of this rule.

£5 million is not bad for somebody who has hardly played in the first team and is out of contract next summer in my opinion. Thats if that is the fee anyway.

it makes us a laughing stock on buying and selling players, tbh.
i foking hate wenger but no way would he let deals like this go through for such a promising young CB. hypothetically speaking.. if we were trying to sign him now barca would demand 12m for him, and we would pay...no questions, ffs. i am gutted he is leaving, but so much more so because of the small price we are getting. who could we sign for €5m.. fowler lol |

Guys please realise he could leave for free next summer. And I have no doubt he would, if he's not happy. He's not going to become a first teamer next season.
So in the choice between losing him for free or getting £3.5 million for him it's fairly obvious which I'd pick. And it's not THAT big a loss -- yes, he's talented, but he's far from the finished article. Barcelona are still taking a risk buying him, and we've got Evans as a young defender who we can nurture. There was probably only ever going to be room for one of them. And if the Richards rumours are true, then that makes it even less likely Pique would get game time. |

If it makes anyone a laughing stock it is Barca. They develop a player in their system... lose him for a nominal fee... then buy him back for more money. Pique could simply walk away for free next season.
Im treating this all with skepticism until we see something official anyway. |

Pique looks very decent everytime he plays, but let's be honest, he won't be able to break the Rio-Vida partnership. Rio (best defender in the world) is 29 and Vidic is only 26, someone with the potential of Pique won't wait that long. Evans is coming back from Sunderland and Brown just signed a new contract, so there is really no need to keep him around. Barcelona certainly know that, that's why they offer only around £4m. If his contract would run until 2010, we would get more like £8m, but unfortunately that's not the case.
Will be a good business for Barca in the coming years, I'm convinced Pique will be one of the top centre backs in La Liga. |

Whatever happens with the lad we'll be ok.
If we sell we are gonna get money and rather get it now than let him leave for free next summer. Another thing is he wont get too many games soon. If we dont sell he is gonna be on bench as he was this season and even Brown will be on bench so chances will be very limited for the young lad. Remember also that Evans is another one waiting for chances and he is also very good. |

Best thing for him, he was never going to get ahead of Rio and Vidic. Wish him the best.
