Pique Back at Barca ?

Barcelona have held talks with the representatives of Manchester United defender Gerard Pique.

AS says Barca sports director Txiki Begiristain is eager to sound out Pique about a return to the Nou Camp as talks stall over a deal for Racing Santander defender Ezequiel Garay.

Pique quit Barca for United in 2004, but has found it difficult this season to break up the first-choice defensive pairing of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

No, no and once again no.

He wanted to leave Barca and it was his decision.

I don't think he will return there.

Better not be true, I like him, he's gotta realize it's just as unlikely he breaks into the Barca defence.

I doubt that. The last player that broke through from our youth/reserve set-up to play a decent number of games was Fletcher about five years ago. Barca have brought through the likes of Messi and Iniesta since that time and now Pique is seeing people like Dos Santos and Bojan who would have been in youth teams below him get more regular football than he has had at United.

Really hope we keep hold of them though, if we give him a chance he could be a top player for us.

That's not a fair comparison. A promising attacking player is worth a punt when surrounded by Messi/Henry/Deco, etc shaking things up and creating opportunities. If they have a poor game too bad, you can probably live with it. You can also give them a run as a sub more easily.

A promising centre back is a risky bet because he is your last line of defence. A poor game costs you the game.

I like the kid and would like him to get more action, but I'll be bricking it throughout the game wishing Rio and Vida were there.

Too bad they cocked up the Carling

I'm not comparing player for player but club by club. It's just a fact that we don't take the risks with young players as much as we used to, your talking about how easy it is to bring through attacking talents but we had one of the finest young forwards around in Rossi and we gave him 1 league start in all the time he was with us.

Besides I don't think your argument about young defenders vs attackers holds much weight. I said Fletcher was the last player to come through the youth and reserve set-up but who was the last attacker who made it at United? You have to go back over a decade to people like Giggs and Scholes but defensive players like P. Neville, O'Shea and Brown have come through the system since that time.

And surely a goal keeper is the last line of defence.

The crucial difference being that a few points dropped here and there aren't half as costly in La Liga as they are when you're competing against an unstoppable machine, like Chelsea.

It's all Roman's Fault

That's true enough, I'm not really blaming anyone for us taking less risks with youth players just saying it's a fact. With the league being what it is now if Fergie suddenly decided to replace a number of established players with guys from the reserves and youth team like he did in 1995 then we'd be fucked.

Yeap, he has good technique and passing and is a TANK. He looks like Veloso too so we could just get him to get 'Veloso' on the back of his jersey to erouse all of the transfer MUPPETS, instead of splashing out £15M.

They apparently only want to pay £4m. I really hope this is not going to happen (for that kind of prize). Barcelona are desperatly searching for a centre back and we don't need to sell.

we have Carrick, Scholes, Hargreaves and Anderson who can all play holding roles. Why the fuck would we put a fat defender in there instead?
